My career in the film industry hasn’t been linear. Or predictable. Or fast…by any means. In fact, more often than not, it’s tested me, worn me down, and left me questioning why I’m still here.
The other day, I seriously considered walking away. But in that moment, I found myself thinking about the experiences (big and small) that little Kati would be proud of. The ones that remind me why I started, especially when things feel frustrating or uncertain. So I want to take a second to honor them:
⭐️ I earned my SAG eligibility working as a stand-in on ‘Grown Ups 2’, where I got to sing (off camera) as the lead to the J. Geils Band (thank you @filmerdugan ). Later, Adam Sandler said I was funny after hearing me read lines during rehearsal.
⭐️ After working together on an indie film in Rhode Island, Mark Ruffalo advocated for me on another feature I had a callback for - even pitching me to Robert Downey Jr., the lead in the film. I almost booked it, and I’ll always be grateful to Mark for his support.
⭐️ I got to improvise a comedy scene with Larry David during a callback. Later, I was considered for ‘Dumb & Dumber To’, the film his producer was working on next.
⭐️ My very first audition after moving to LA was for the lead role of Rey in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. I had two auditions.
⭐️ I was cast in an HBO pilot, where I played a sex-obsessed Puritan girl in the 1600s, directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting) - a role that likely would have been recurring had the show been picked up.
⭐️ I played a supporting role in a hit Lifetime holiday film that’s become a seasonal favorite. I still get fan messages about it every year 🫶
⭐️ I was upgraded from a co-star role to a guest star role on the first network TV series I booked.
⭐️ I went to the Sundance Film Festival with an amazing group of people to premiere ‘The Polka King’, where I acted opposite Jack Black and Jenny Slate. My mom got to be an extra in my scene, and I introduced her to Jack. He was wonderful.
⭐️I met Daniel Tosh at a local food mart. The next day, one of his producers called to offer me a role in a Tosh.0 sketch. We filmed a week later.
