Roses, abutilon, irises, peonies, verbascum, hesperis and every sort of allium and euphorbia zinging in the #walledgarden at SergeHill. Lots of weeding and I’m making a cake a day for the #ngs charity garden opening on the 7th June (online booking in advance) when we’re open from 1-5.00 with the barn and the #sergehillproject @hertsngs@suestuartsmith@tomstuartsmith@sergehillproject . Hope to see you there!
#sergehill RAIN! We’re open to visitors first time this year on Tuesday… tulips have nearly ended (a bit early for lack of water) and there’s now a sea of alliums, anthriscus, malus hupehensis and euphorbia. Peonies and irises just beginning. Oh I love May! Playing the Dvorak quartet next weekend…
#sergehill #walledgarden #golden autumn light, the #kentuckycoffeetree is almost the first to turn. Dahlia coccinea is over 6 foot tall and the pelargoniums love this beautiful early October weather.
#sergehill walled garden dahlia, cosmos, salvia fest: includes the tiny dahlia merckii, coccinea and Mexican star, sarah raven, alauna clair, misses Amy, Soulman, octopus sparkle, rip city, labyrinth- what’s the BEST rich pink to stop it being a gloom fest? #dahlias
#sergehill walled garden hedge cutting getting underway, tho not box in full sun, full dishevelled august with surprisingly beautiful favourite new mad Dahlia ‘octopus sparkle’, paths closed up and it’s all a tiptoe through fennel. A record onion harvest but please don’t mention tomatoes…. Who knew zinnias were so fun! My very first…
#sergehill #walledgarden there’s a late summer haze with bupleurum falcatum echoing the mass of self seeded fennel, eryngiums and echinops, dahlias and eucomis - and some heaven sent 🌧️. AND We had a wonderful plant fair here last week thanks to @sergehillproject@tomstuartsmith and @suestuartsmith - I hope now an annual fixture!
#sergehill #walledgarden #heatwave Most of these are that enchanting quiet early morning moment, when the colours are saturated before the full blast of the sun arrives. The garden feels 2 weeks ahead - the courgette love it! Peppers and tomatoes are too hot in the greenhouse at over 40 degrees. Perennials are flowering for a short time and going to seed ….We’ve had our last group visit for the year except for the plant fair roadshow on 27th July - tickets online in advance from @sergehillproject@tomstuartsmith@suestuartsmith
#sergehill #walledgarden #earlymorning the lavender lining the vegetables now fully out, the persicaria polymorpha in full froth with milky blue campanula lactiflora and euphorbias. The ferocious midday sun leaches the colour and wilts the leaves. This sunrise moment is when it looks best ….
