"Kate graduated from the University of Bolton in July 2021, with a degree in Special Makeup Effects for TV and Film. Over the past year, she has completed her master's degree at Falmouth University, in conjunction with Gorton Studio, in Prosthetic Effects. The piece she is presenting was created on the MA course. The module aim was to bring to life a creature or character from a written description. Baba Roga is the tale of an ugly, old, horned lady who originates from Eastern European countries. A story told as a warning to naughty children, to make them behave, or else Baba Roga will steal them away to her cave in the forest! This character bust was sculpted in WED clay, moulded in fiberglass, casted in silicone and filled with expanding biscuit foam. Hand painted with thinned, pigmented silicones, hair-punched eyelashes, eyebrows and hairline, with 3D printed eye forms, designed in Zbrush."

Super proud of how he turned out, it was incredibly challenging and I wasn’t sure if he’d come together but he did!
Fibreglass body and head, with soft foam and latex ears, trunk and tail which are moveable.

Plaster moulded, latex dwelled, fitted with armature wire and filled with soft foam.
His ears and tail were produced the same way!

A very lengthy process, with a lot of clean up too do. Cracking open the waste mould took a lot of helping hands!
Super happy with how this process went, definitely would do it slightly different next time but just glad the waste mould went smoothly!
