Today is the day that all members of my family finally share one citizenship together — that of the Republic of Sierra Leone. ❤️🇸🇱
Today — May 11, 2026 — in the presence of my family, I pledged an Oath of Allegiance to a country that already has my full heart and spirit. I am deeply grateful that it has pleased His Excellency the President Julius Maada Bio to grant my request for naturalization, in accordance with the laws of Sierra Leone.
I remember my first visit to Sierra Leone in 2013 with my then-boyfriend with cool dreadlocks and a bottomless love for Salone
@moinina_s . I remember, after we married, bringing infant Nyaanina for her first visit 10 years ago. I remember moving into our Smart Farm home 8 years ago when David was appointed Chief Innovation Officer, and welcoming Nyaanina’s baby sis Peynina almost 7 years ago. I remember when David was asked to serve as Minister of Education and later Chief Minister, at each juncture deepening our family’s commitment to national development and to building a meaningful life rooted here in Sierra Leone.
Over the years, Sierra Leone has shaped not only our family life, but also my own work, creativity, friendships, and sense of purpose. I think about all the kind souls who helped me find my anchors into this wonderful place — whether through music and creativity, leadership and civic life, or adventures across Sierra Leone’s many incredible destinations. I thank you 🙏🏼❤️
Today, I feel profoundly happy, proud, and privileged — and so extremely hopeful for the next chapter ahead, which I now have the honor to experience — and contribute to — as a citizen of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
