There are a million ways to open a gathering — smooth and slow, heavy and loud, individually and collectively, traditionally and contemporary. What matters is that you think with intention about HOW you want to open, and that you carry through confidently with your intention. You may want to think about: - What opening will suit the core purpose of the gathering? - What opening will catch the attention of your group immediately? - What opening will signal what this experience is going to be about? - What opening will make visible how we relate to each other as individuals? - What opening will showcase your greatest strengths as a facilitator? Learn more from @facilitativeleadership And share how YOU open in the comments! #facilitationskills #FacilitativeLeadership Event: @witokendrink232 Venue: Things and Somethings Visuals: @olusmith10

Today is the day that all members of my family finally share one citizenship together — that of the Republic of Sierra Leone. ❤️🇸🇱 Today — May 11, 2026 — in the presence of my family, I pledged an Oath of Allegiance to a country that already has my full heart and spirit. I am deeply grateful that it has pleased His Excellency the President Julius Maada Bio to grant my request for naturalization, in accordance with the laws of Sierra Leone. I remember my first visit to Sierra Leone in 2013 with my then-boyfriend with cool dreadlocks and a bottomless love for Salone @moinina_s . I remember, after we married, bringing infant Nyaanina for her first visit 10 years ago. I remember moving into our Smart Farm home 8 years ago when David was appointed Chief Innovation Officer, and welcoming Nyaanina’s baby sis Peynina almost 7 years ago. I remember when David was asked to serve as Minister of Education and later Chief Minister, at each juncture deepening our family’s commitment to national development and to building a meaningful life rooted here in Sierra Leone. Over the years, Sierra Leone has shaped not only our family life, but also my own work, creativity, friendships, and sense of purpose. I think about all the kind souls who helped me find my anchors into this wonderful place — whether through music and creativity, leadership and civic life, or adventures across Sierra Leone’s many incredible destinations. I thank you 🙏🏼❤️ Today, I feel profoundly happy, proud, and privileged — and so extremely hopeful for the next chapter ahead, which I now have the honor to experience — and contribute to — as a citizen of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

What a joy to share “Find Your Way Home,” a collaboration between @my_kamara and myself that first sprouted a year ago at a @telemfreetown songwriting retreat. 🌱. Some things take time to come to full fruition, and this was one. I can’t wait to hear how the blend of musical ideas resonates in your ears. 🙏🏼❤️ Listen to “Find Your Way Home” wherever you listen to music. Ahmed Kamara’s roots run deep in Sierra Leone’s rich musical heritage. Descended from a line of great fighters and praise singers, he proudly carries that legacy through performances in Krio, Koranko, Mandingo, and Susu. A true folklore artist, Ahmed bridges generations, blending traditional storytelling and rhythms with modern sounds that resonate across cultures. @my_kamara An American singer songwriter living in Sierra Leone, Kate’s folk orchestral sound combines layered vocal harmonies with poignant and honest lyrics about the human condition. Some of her songs blend these styles with Sierra Leonean, brass band, and funk influences. She makes intimate, cinematic music that feels emotionally rich and atmospheric, often exploring themes of memory, belonging, resilience, and transformation. @katekrontiris Curious about the blend? Listen to their new single “Find Your Way Home” out tomorrow May 8 on all platforms. 🎶🌍🌱

It’s two weeks later, and I’m still buzzing from what an amazing room this was at @witokendrink232 🌱🌱 I always feel like the best part of my job is getting to witness people take themselves on — and the community that gathered for “How to Lead a Room Without Losing It” was no different. So many great approaches, thoughtful anecdotes, and honest truths emerged from the participants. Kudos to Wi Tok N Drink for creating this space for real exchange and learning in Freetown. ⭐️⭐️ Visuals: @olusmith10 Venue: Things and Somethings, Aberdeen For more, check out @facilitativeleadership

I got an advance listen to Sierra Leonean musician @incredible_jjofficial new EP “The Maths” at his listening party last night. The music is so. so. good. And more than that, it was one of those rooms where you could feel that something had come together properly. Not just the music—but the full constellation around it: family and artist peers showing up with real belief in his artistry, a disciplined musician working with clear intention and identity, top-tier music production blending local and contemporary sounds, management and promotion that understand both craft and positioning, sector policy and political leaders shaping Sierra Leone’s creative direction, and physical infrastructure that held it all together. And yet, there is one huge gap: once the songs hit the airwaves, Incredible JJ will earn exactly zero from local plays in Sierra Leone. We need to fix this.
