🎤Discover how brilliant minds do stupid things at the British Science Festival in this science comedy show!
Join us for a spectacular evening of science and comedy in Liverpool, featuring a brilliant line-up of performers.
British Science Association trustee and scientist Rachel Honeyghan-Williams (@ucl ) will explore the highs and lows of being human – including why it might be better to be a chicken.
Quantum physicist Nick Werren (@heriotwattuni ) will tackle the big question of “what is science?”, while Erin Beeston (@officialuom ) will prove autism isn’t contagious – but laughter might be.
Researcher Kate Slade (@lancasteruni ) brings together psychology and hot glue guns, and Freya McGhee combines science, comedy and dating in one unforgettable experiment.
🗓 Friday 12th September
🕡 20.30 to 22.00
📍 LEAF, Liverpool
Take part in a Q&A at the end where we’ll debate what makes a great scientist.

With studies displaying correlations between hearing loss, depression, and isolation - yesterday’s Collaboration Cafe with @katedoingscience from @lancasterunisportssci offered a timely account of how research into an understudied area of audiology is able to provide pivotal age-related dignity.
Kate’s work looks to translate the reality of the strained physicality of hearing loss, emphasising how cognitive resources are expended. Recent Public Patient Involvement punctuated the severity of the condition, with one person finding the act of listening “like working a muscle”.
So what’s the solution? Ultimately, Kate aims to introduce listening effort measurements as part of objective clinical practice, including regular hearing tests. Moving from lab to life, Kate underscored the real-world impact of applying cardiovascular and brain analysis.
Next week we round out the term with an unmissable talk which promises to bridge the disciplines of health and sociology. Dr Aaron Winter will discuss the Far-Right’s impact on health policy, including conspiracies around big pharma and the privatisation of the NHS. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Turns out I’m the most average! 😁
I won at being the meanest (mode-est and median-est) contestant in @merry.martyn ’s PhD fever dream statistics comedy gameshow 🤓
@merry.martyn & @erinbeeston as Average Joe were the best hosting duet everrrr and my fellow contestants were incredible @thecurlyfriedmax , @allygrandison@its_emsoo , I’m such a fan of you all 🪩

On Tuesday 4th Feb I’ll be competing in Let’s Get Mean: The Average Gameshow! @carltonclubmcr 8pm!
Hosted by stats expert and standup comic @merry.martyn with the help of unglamorous assistant Average Joe (@erinbeeston )!
I’ll be competing alongside @thecurlyfriedmax@allygrandison@its_emsoo@mishmashcroft to determine which of us is the most average! 😎
Finalllyyyy a gameshow that celebrates just your bog standard, run of the mill, not nothing to see but also not something to see, middle of the road people! And i’m in it to win it, or like you know place in the middle somewhere! 👻
It’s like taskmaster but with maths and doing sort of ok means you win! 🏆
