double-session (~6 hours) full palette figure painting, my final one from FPII! 12"x16"
for our last class, we were promoted to a six hour painting! it was a pleasure to conclude the semester with this piece because the ground I'd placed successfully matched the shadows and the direction of the light became clearly evident from the desaturation I afforded the light plane and its subsequent saturated falloff! I have to admit, with the amount of self-imposed distractions on the last day of the semester, this should more honestly be referred to as a three-hour study.

one of my favorite figure paintings from FPII. it felt like the first time I successfully executed all the concepts from FPI! using chroma to turn the form...and my linseed oil was 25 miles away, so I actually had to use gamsol as medium.
I think I set up the lighting for this pose too, so that was exciting!

Welcome to the world of Pump Jockey!
celebrating its one year anniversary and substantial universe expansion, I wanted to introduce my personal ip and its titular character, Justin "Juice" Young. completed for the seventh and final project in Joe Thiel's Spring Semester Sophomore Illustration class, this was done as a magazine cover for our open assignment.
when I took Design & Type my sophomore spring, I created the robobrand SITELYNE, a company in the automotive aftermarket industry providing exterior vehicle accessories—customizable headlights and taillights. in addition to being obsessed with the brand, I grew fond of my user personas, a midwestern italian rep of american muscle and a west coast JDM fanatic. Juice, a Japanese-American drag racer from California, came to life.
the project was also a wily personal response to the pin-up. the Import Tuner catalogue provided the most source material for photoshoot stylings and lewd subheadings. every phrase here is my own, and there is a whole document dedicated to spitballing raunchy article titles and innuendos. the magazine itself was almost called Pocket Rocket.
the Pump Jockey logo is a transformation of a logo featured in the book Logo Mondo by Hitoshi Nagasawa, "Data Cakes...digital data archiving made sweet and simple" by . Pump Jockey does not share many letters with Data Cakes, so I elaborated on the font by hand while doing my best to retain the design ethos of the source material. this font does not appear anywhere else in my work or portfolio, and is exclusively an exercise in integrating period-accurate (late 2000s) design into my work. the body copy is the font family All Round Gothic, designed by Ryoichi Tsunekawa for the foundry Dharma Type.
there are a lot of minute references in this piece that brought me great joy to incorporate. Juice's tramp stamp is the 1968 Hot Wheels logo, mirrored and overlaid onto itself to create a unique cyber sigil. I got so excited about drawing the Scion's body that I completely forgot to draw on a spoiler, so I suppose the timeline retcon is that this "photo" was taken before Juice got that mod installed.

WASTE MANAGEMENT
the FIRST print run of the FIRST issue of Waste Management debuted at #moccafest2026 this weekend, with riso-printed copies accompanying @ringlingcollegeillustration promotional material. Mili and I are proud to be founders and co-editors of a new campus anthology. what started as a passionate, hour-long conversation with Joe Thiel at our Bat City booth in September 2025 (we brought him a chair) came to fruition in January 2026 when we hosted our first Sunday afternoon meeting. we’ve met for two hours every week leading up to MoCCA, hosting the incredible Amanda Ho for some profound faculty feedback, doling out Makerspace shifts for extensive consecutive hours of riso printing, and generating some speculation on campus as the “Anti-Meanwhile”…so come find our work for yourselves! Waste Management, Volume 1 features the following incredible people:

I was SUPER HYPED to have been selected to create a Teacher Trading Card for the 2025 series—thank you again to the Illest Crew for taking a chance on me and my work!!! it was really satisfying to combine the various elements I love into an illustration—figure drawing, an ink brush, direct eye contact...I was extremely passionate about this project all throughout the summer. the Illest Crew left thorough and insightful feedback at each progress checkpoint, and I'm very satisfied with how the final looks on paper!
I took 2D Design my freshman year at Ringling with Jennifer Jones, and in hindsight, the content of the class has been the most foundational for my subsequent illustrative work. I also met some of my closest friends in that classroom, so I think it's only appropriate that this card chose me 🐯

figure painting this semester is pushing me to approach every mark I make with intense critical assessment, and to refuse on compromising the output when I have the capacity to make my work stronger. this block-in has significant opportunities for improvement, especially in the thickness of my paint and the abrasive presence of the masonite backboard in the gaps between my brushstrokes. I’ve been holding off on toning my canvases to pay careful attention to my brushwork! I’m very excited to continue working and progressing, and I’m proud of it nonetheless 😼

pg50. George Pratt.
George spent our last Figure III class telling us alien and ghost stories. for a second we couldn't find Paulo, so George got onto the stand for 10 minutes and told more stories from the stage. taking this class has changed my approach to every medium available to me, and I'm thankful I could whip out* even one tiny portrait in gratitude. reading the feedback he left on every homework assignment and semester submission was informative and encouraging. George has a very clear sense of artistic direction and he leads with it impeccably. after a semester of being stylistically disoriented and academically defeated, I couldn't have asked for a better instructor. I recovered 😸

⬆️ also the title of one of my favorite episodes of House M.D....15-minute sharpie figure. after a semester of bleeding out my sharpies, I succeeded in making them behave how I wanted them to and felt very pleased about it! dried-out markers have a very pencil-like texture, and I was really excited to try and replicate my preferred method of hatching and layering when I could also achieve a true black shadow.

pg41. Blind Contour.
drove a full car (6 people in my Subaru Forester⁉️) to @wslr96.5 's second-ever Drink & Draw Sarasota and won a free drink with my eyes closed! thank you to Marina for picking out this blind contour of her kitsune persona! I couldn't "drink" anything because I was the designated driver (and I failed to pawn the ticket off onto both Thiel and Georch) so I tried a Jamaican kola!

an in-class ink exercise that I happened to do during the 2025 kimodameshi drawing challenge (no other participation in it on my end LOL)! Georch hosted several of our figure classes in the library this past semester, and for this one he had us draw from his expansive Dropbox of film stills, headshots, and other various photography. this prompt was supposed to result in a caricature, but the only feature I ended up successfully exaggerating was the bushiness of the man's beard. done with a water reservoir brush I filled with sumi ink (poor man's brush pen) and a dip pen I had to borrow from Georch (😶🌫️) in about 15 minutes!
