I’m not sure I’ve ever written a story that needed so many edits. Because between filing the copy and going live today, the number of Australian women killed in 2024 has risen so rapidly we struggled to keep up. 38 women in 145 days. 43 women in 167 days. 48 women in 189 days. 49 women in 190 days.
This special feature for @instyleaus , illustrated by child sexual abuse survivor and former Australian of the Year Grace Tame, honours the women tragically taken this year - many who’ve gone quietly, their wrongful deaths buried deep in newsfeeds – and argues that the epidemic of gendered violence must stay at the top of the agenda. We can’t wait for the ‘perfect’ victim or next moment of mass outrage.
