🛋️Costume Design: Dirk Gently🛋️
Costuming this show was a huge challenge: 40 costumes total! Dirk was such a silly, over the top show that really leant into the British sense of humour. Dirk himself was often the only character that knew what was going on at any one time and I really wanted to encorporate that in the design.
Overall, I wanted to give the impression of children (mainly Dirk) playing dress-up. Over-sized items, full of color and fun. Big plastic jewellry, classic police uniforms, intelligent characters wearing glasses and bow ties - that sort of thing!
Dirk iconically wears a blue leather jacket across all adaptations of the show and, inspired by this, I wanted him in full primary colours. It contributed to this idea of him being the centre of the story and him bringing the building blocks of the plot together. I tried to keep the secondary characters to secondary colours where possible (budget allowing!).
Overall, a fab show and a fab team. Directed by Pietro Andreotti, Katy Halliwell and Ben Mansell. I was assisted by the lovely Lily Hewett.
🌹Dracula🌹
Directing this show was such a big jump from directing The Shape of Things. We threw the kitchen sink at this show: big cast, dance, fight choreo, live harp. This was a real challenge and pushed my directing skills.
We went for a classic gothic, dark aesthetic but with a Tim Burton twist to add an extra unnatural later to the show. The script itself twisted the tale too in order to fit the stage, but it definitely had a unique touch. We decided to lean into these changes and steer into the skid. This resulted in a weird, surreal but wonderful recounting of the horror that is Dracula.
A wonderful, hard working cast and crew throughout and some beautiful custom costumes!

🌹Poster Design: Dracula🌹
With all Oscar wins for Sinners, it feels a good time to run through the development of the Dracula poster.
The vision for the performance was to do a traditional retelling of the dark tale of Dracula, using the work of Tim Burton as visual inspiration.
One of my first designs for theatre, the process of designing for this project was exciting and enlightening. I'm very proud of the finished project but would definitely have made some changes with more time and with the beauty of hindsight!
💐Hamlet💐
Ophelia was my first big female Shakespeare role and I couldn't be more grateful for the incredible cast and crew. I learned so much from this show and really felt myself grow as a performer.
This was a traditional and timeless take on the story, with pre-recorded multimedia elements that were projected on stage. Such a free and creative space to work in, all thanks to our wonderful directors.

🖋️Original Writing Showcase🖋️
It was an honour to have my writing performed by the wonderful @tezni_music . 'Angeleyes' was written late at night on a whim and I couldn't have asked for a better performance.
This monologue tells the story of the ghost of a Victorian girl who died in the lecture theatre that the showcase was performed in. She becomes obsessed with ABBA after watching a screening of Mamma Mia that took place in the room. As the piece begins, she becomes conscious of the presence of the audience and connects with them.
So grateful for the work these creatives put into this showcase. I learned a lot from this process and am excited to develop my writing.

🫀🤍The Shape of Things by Neil Labute🤍🫀
💕 The Shape of Things is a story of intense relationships and the lines of morality in the art world and, most importantly, tells the audience to question their views. These themes remain present in UnderGlass Productions' work today.
🖌️ My first time directing and I couldn't have asked for a better team of people to do it with. Many in the cast and crew are still a part of UnderGlass and have been with me and this company since the beginning.
🤝 Myself and @michaelscanlonn went from directing this independent theatre show to founding and directing our own company and I couldn't be prouder of our beginnings.
🎨 I learnt so much in directing this show and felt myself growing as a result, I will always treasure and love the time I spent on this wonderful production.
