DANCING IN THE RAIN || KAREā WILLIAMS
Jan 29 - Mar 4 2026
Opening reception Jan 29 6-8pm
āDancing in the Rainā interrogates the fraught relationship between Black identity and Americanism. This body of work does not seek definitive answers but unfolds as an embodied exploration, a reflection of the artistās lived experience in a space that claims his belonging yet weaponizes its conditions against him. The central questions pulse through each piece; Is āAmericanā an identity he can claim, or a tool of control wielded by his oppressors? As Kareā Williams journeys through this inquiry, he is not only interested in the tension between America and people of color, but also in how we transform these tribulations into positivity.

The Arts Club of Chicago is excited to announce the selection of the 2026-27 Arts Club Fellows, a program designed to support emerging talent in the arts at a critical point in their careers. Four exceptional fellows, each nominated by prominent arts professionals in Chicago, have been chosen to receive the fellowship, which provides financial support, networking, exhibition, and performance opportunities, and a two-year membership to The Arts Club of Chicago.
This yearās fellows are:
- Teresita Carson @dizzydentfilms
- Mauricio López F. @mauriciolopezfernandez
- Miao Wang @wmiao_oaimw
- Kareā Williams @karewillstudio
The Arts Club Fellowship is unique in its ability to connect artists. As a two-year program, with a cohort beginning each year, the new fellows overlap with the current class, opening up broad opportunities to collaborate and increase peer-to-peer networking and artist-to-artist mentorship. In addition to the nomination process, the Arts Club partners with ACRE Projects, a well-regarded residency and exhibition organization based in Chicago and Wisconsin to develop the next generation of emerging artists.
This Fellowship is made possible with support from the Holly Palmer Foundation as well as individual donors to The Arts Club of Chicago.
