For our Maxi 🎤💖🎶
One of my favourite memories with
@maxishield was doing the Girl Group challenge together on Drag Race with
@therealelektrashock and
@kitamean . We had the best time working together, and our hearts melted at her somewhat hilarious lack of musicality. Nonetheless, we LOVED her verse and loved performing with her, although we were confident she would be the bottom.
The runway category was Bogan Prom, and Maxi came out looking the MOST authentically Maxi we’d ever seen. Ru loved her look and so did we. She had a giant bum bag on her waist and it put us all in stitches.
Before going on stage for the final critiques, I asked her if she was ready. She gave me the cheekiest, slyest, most confident deep look, reached into her bum bag and gave me a tiny glimpse of her secret weapon - the rhinestoned microphone. I both laughed and cried because it was so iconic, and so funny, and so perfect. If she had to lip sync, she was gonna be ok - and she knew it.
The rhinestoned prop mic is iconic to Maxi, as it is to a lot of Sydney queens. I’ll always associate it with her, and I’ll never forget that moment, and we’ll never forget our Maxi. This one is for you old girl. We love you so much 💖
