People Watching & Cleaning Mirrors: This is a collection of paintings, drawings and photographs that looks at people with a little more care. I want to humanise humans and strip back the idea of “people” as a distant concept. The more we learn about others, the more we learn about ourselves. I believe we cannot truly empathise without understanding, so this series invites you to look a little closer and reflect.
Jorge Kara is an artist from Thirroul on Dharawal land whose practice spans painting, drawing and photography. He works across a wide range of mediums including acrylic on canvas, oil paint, Posca pens and Sharpies, often combining materials to create layered, expressive pieces. His art is deeply reflective, serving as both a mirror and a process of self-exploration. Jorge has been involved in group exhibitions such as Bad News Gallery and Wonderwalls Festival, experiences that have shaped his approach to sharing art publicly. Through creating, he has learned the importance of stepping back, taking breaks and finding joy in small moments, allowing self reflection to be as much a part of the process as the finished work. Recently, Jorge has shifted his focus towards photography, travelling with his film camera and developing a new body of work that reflects his evolving perspective. For this exhibition, Jorge is presenting a series titled People Watching & Cleaning Mirrors. The collection highlights his ongoing journey between painting, drawings and photography, capturing both the external world and the landscapes within.
