WHY DO WE FEAR COLOUR MORE THAN CONCRETE? Because colour triggers emotions. And emotions make decisions feel risky. But when used with intention, colour isn’t risky. It’s powerful. Photography: @max.feldhoff WE PLAY is a joyful, intuitive and visually striking art intervention that redefines the building's atmosphere and improves the overall user experience. The sports centre is used by local schools, competitive teams and the public. We introduced a system that is not only practical and clear, but also emotionally uplifting. WE PLAY enhances visitor flow through colour-coded zones, replacing traditional signage with a more engaging, human-centred approach. While the building is functional, concrete-heavy and neutral, it offered the perfect blank canvas for us to make an impact. Through bold applications of colour, we softened and humanised the space, adding warmth, energy and a sense of identity. Crucially, WE PLAY goes beyond function. We designed it to make people feel welcome, energised and happy – values that are at the heart of everything we do. The name itself reflects our belief in inclusivity, playfulness and shared experience. Our clients take a leap of faith when embracing colour at scale – and the results speak for themselves. The feedback from the community, local schools and sports teams has been incredibly positive. ART HEALS - SO WHY ISN'T IT IN ALL HOSPITALS? The featured project DIVERSITY is a public art commission for the walk-in clinic at the Royal London Hospital. Spanning two storeys, the artwork flows from the main reception into waiting areas and corridors outside treatment spaces. A large central painting of abstract geometric symbols acts as a keystone, with its motifs repeated throughout the building in wall graphics, wooden artworks, and framed prints, accompanying patients as they move through the service. Studies show — and our experience confirms — that uplifting hospital art boosts mood, reduces stress, and supports healing. This painting is the centrepiece of our DIVERSITY installation at the Royal London Hospital. Installed in the main reception, it’s made up of abstract geometric symbols that celebrate the diversity of the East London community and its patients.
