Refinished, Recabled, Raised Higher ✨ Sharing a few images from a summer conservation project on Robert Graham’s Monument to Joe Lewis from 1986, installed in downtown Detroit. The work pays tribute to famed Detroit heavyweight boxing champion Joe Lewis, who immigrated to Detroit from Alabama to become one of the best boxers of all time. Thanks to the amazing team of colleagues from @diadetroit who worked so hard to pull this off at a busy intersection on a beautiful day! The best part of this project was hearing from so many people passing by how much this work means to them—easily one of the DIA’s most beloved and most viewed artworks!

Spent the weekend celebrating the lives and legacies of James and Grace Lee Boggs, among a gathering of activists, artists, friends and family members assembled by the @grace_lee_boggs foundation and the brilliant @scottkurashige Together, Grace and James charted a vision for Detroit that spanned the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements to the complexities of the Obama Era and Post-Bankruptcy Detroit. They insisted on a vision for Detroit that put the city at the center of revolutionary thought, part of a shared global conversation—a city that was not an aftermath of capitalism and the industrial age, but a place that had already begun to envision what comes next. Grace and Jimmy’s home is a monument to critical thought, community connection, and the transformative power of love. A needed infusion of inspiration and radical possibility ♥️

World’s fastest work trip: Rome to Florence to Pisa in 72 hours. Loved seeing Keith Haring’s last major public mural, Tuttomondo, and some luscious details from beloved works, finally in person, at the Uffizi.

Celebrating the three incredible New Orleans artists sharing their work at MoMA tonight: Gabrielle Garcia Steib, L.Kasimu Harris, and Renee Royale ✨ When I was working with these artists in New Orleans, they were “local artists” and we really had to fight for them. Just try to come at me with that now. Beautiful to see these artists presented as they always were — among the best in the world! Thrilled that @neworleansmuseumofart exhibited and acquired work by Gabby and Kasimu so early on! Let’s keep that center of gravity shifting away from the coasts @themuseumofmodernart Kills me not to be there! Congratulations, friends. @honeysighs @visionsandverbs @reneeroyale
