â I facilitated a workshop with Igbo 'grief' songs, as an invitation to others to tap in their ancestral cultures and creativity to deepen and expand their mourning and death vocabulary. Thank you to the World Arts West
@worldartswest team for including me in your 2025 programming line up. And to the
@thebeatberk studios for hosting the weekend.
I think this may have been the first time in a long while that I held space for others, where I've felt held myself. Arriving at the intention and specificity of my own cultural practice is a gift that I'd give myself over and over. We cried. We chuckled. We shared some moving and stirring poems/songs. An amazing accomplishment for a 1hr workshop centering death and grief.
Thank you to my Igbo culture teacher and guide Ifeanyi Akabueze
@okachamma_dance . Thank you to Kanukai for being my right handlegwaist. To my family in and far for how they support and show out for me. To friends, funders, and community who have gassed this journey. And the ancestors hyping me up from the other realm. And for my ndi igbo bad gyals
@natachi.life ,
@pleasure.as.compass who showed up and held down our ancestral soundscape with authenticity and beauty.
Folks are asking when the next one is. I'm still working on workshops/grief circle dates, but part of this 'work' is play as well. Sooooooo you can cash me outside
