ICYMI- Southwest Blvd* is undergoing a transformation with the goal to make the corridor safer and easier to navigate.
A “road diet” will convert 4 thru-lanes ➡️ 2 thru-lanes with a turn lane in the middle, and protected mobility lanes have been added to prioritize the safety of all who use the road.
*This project spans from Broadway Blvd to Grand Blvd

🌳Today we celebrated Arbor Day with the planting of a Ponderosa Pine tree honoring Wilbur Niewald !
Wilbur Niewald was a native Kansas Citian nationally recognized for his abstract and plein air paintings. After retiring from The Kansas City Art Institute, Wilbur became a fixture in Loose Park painting 6 hours a day, 6 days a week capturing the “vital essence” of the world before him. Planted amongst the pine trees near the tennis courts in Loose Park, the tree is an homage to one of Wilbur’s favorite places to paint.
Kansas City is recognized as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation which was established in 1872 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Loose Park is home to the Stanley R. McLane Arboretum with over 1,000 trees and over 110 species.
🎨 In the spirit of Wilbur’s passion for plein air painting, we hosted a plein air painting competition with over 40 artists celebrating his legacy.
Thank you to @moconservation and our Parks Forestry team to help make this day possible.
