We’re also proud of our life changing @kanemindwaves youth project 💙🎧, helping young people with struggles to express themselves through music, learn DJ and music skills, and build confidence. Our schedule keeps getting fuller as more incredible DJs join the station 🎤🎧 No endless adverts interrupting our DJs ❌📢 — just real music and real community underground radio vibes. In the guest mix hot seat this week we have Pete Bones. Pete Bones’ love affair with music began after being expelled from school at 15. With too much time on his hands, he formed a band with friends, teaching himself guitar and drums before hitting the road. A trip to Ibiza and the early sounds of acid house changed everything — electronic music became the future, and Pete swapped his drum kit for a pair of Technics turntables. After tearing up illegal parties across the South East, Pete landed his first residency at Surrey’s Hand & Spear in 1990, transforming it into one of the UK’s biggest midweek nights. By ’92 he launched Ugly Bug Records, gaining support from Pete Tong and Judge Jules. Under his alias The Shaker, ‘Just Lick It’ became one of the club hits of the year, leading to remix work for London, FFRR, Hooj, Perfecto and more. Following chart success and US residencies, Pete returned to the underground, launching Red Ant Records — now over 175 releases strong. During lockdown he also created indie dance project The Stones Of Convention, releasing three albums. More recently, Pete’s Fear & Loathing parties have become legendary in Brighton, regularly selling out Brighton Electric weeks in advance.
