Today, we are thrilled to introduce our next member, vocalist and composer
@kristia.michael !
Kristia Michael is a Cypriot vocalist, composer and sound artist based in The Netherlands. Her focus lies in the experiential, ritualistic, and spiritual dimensions of music, delving into an extensive exploration of the voice as an instrument through medieval, traditional, and contemporary repertoires. She centers her practice on the use of extended vocal techniques, traditional timbres, and elements of performance art.
Kristia is devoted to long-term collaborations with composers on world premieres, participates in recordings, and contributes to the creation of new works and interdisciplinary initiatives. She collaborates with institutes and festivals of early and contemporary music across Europe.
She has appeared as a soloist with the Dutch National Opera & Ballet and has collaborated, among others, with Opera Forward Festival, November Music, New European Bauhaus Festival, the Cultural Festival of the University of Cyprus, Tanzplan Hamburg, and the Utrecht Early Music Festival. She has performed with ensembles such as Nieuw Amsterdams Peil, TETTIΞ, Orkest de Ereprijs, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, and MusicAeterna.
Her compositions include vocal works and multichannel sound installations, which have been presented at the State Heritage Museum (St. Petersburg), SPRING Festival (Netherlands), IMZ International Music + Media Centre (Austria), Dom Radio (St. Petersburg), Dag in de Branding (Netherlands), and Muze van Zuid (Netherlands).
