”Japan tour cancelled by promotor because of a baby”
Bit of a clickbaity headline, but yes it’s true. Finnish national broadcasting channel @yle reported about my experiences so far combining an International music career with motherhood, and I would say many ups but also some downs! The article is in finnish so here are some points:
•It’s possible and doable and can be really fun, and also exhausting like any touring!
•The industry isn’t ready. Venues can help with hotels and some extras sometimes but otherwise travelling with a babysitter comes at your own expense (so grateful to have helping grantparents) In the US I know you can report childcare expenses for some travel grants (at least @southarts ) but Finland doesn’t have anything like that. It’s discriminating against jazzmamas who can’t really be away from their babies and want to still perform
•my two week tour in Japan this september is off. Promoter cancelled after our baby came into the picture even though we were gonna travel with grandma
•I wanna encourage people to do it and we’ve had many good experiences having already travelled in 5 different countries!! Hoping that society will adjust too

Exactly 7 years since my London debut, we played late sets 3 nights in a row, and the whole band squeezed into a basement apartment, all sharing rooms lol
Many things have changed since then and I’m excited to be back on this legendary stage, this time for one main show on Thursday April 23rd. And I’ll only be sharing a room with my family!!

2025, the year that changed everything and nothing 🤍
In February I found out I was pregnant with Lola. Something we really wanted, yet something we were nervous about, not knowing how to combine a baby with our careers.
I was lucky to be able to tour and perform up until 8 months pregnant (despite the 1st trimester trenches, proof in the fifth photo lol). And since I wasn’t sure if sharing the news publicly would change things, I want to say how happy I am for everyone who’s kept hiring me and has invited me to join their projects for 2026–2027.
She is the most amazing thing, and it’s scary to be responsible for something so precious!! It will certainly take effort to combine motherhood and a career in music, but I was fortunate to get back to work when she was just 3 weeks old in November and in January I’m going on my first international tour with her 🌎🙏
So far I’ve only felt supported and welcomed by the music community, and I’m starting to believe these worlds really can live side by side.
