Exactly 2 years ago, I stepped out of my role as Creative Director and boss mama at House of Yes. Most of my friends know already- but I didn’t feel like expressing it publicly at the time and then time kept passing. And now as I launch my new project @makefunstudio it felt right to share this. So, if you don’t know, now u know. In short- years ago, I heard a whisper in my heart calling for change. I ignored it, until it screamed. I then worked up the courage to take action, take the leap. Apparently these things take time. I’m grateful for my partners (yes, I’m still a partner) and all the humans holding it down at HOY. I still love what it is and all we have created. I still go dancing and host as @karlkarlson69 now and again, but I’m not hands-on in the day-to-day. After 15+ years of being in the non-stop-fun-factory, it was time for new things and less nightlife. Shedding an old identity feels beautifully weird, painfully awkward and just as confusing as it is liberating. “Yes, I am FREE! but… who am I!?” THANK YOU to all my friends who held my hand as I squirmed in discomfort, grieved, explored options, had epiphanies and then had epiphanies that made me change my mind about the old epiphanies. I traveled, collaborated on dream projects. Made choices and mistakes. learned some shit. I did that glorious and embarrassing human dance that the humans do. There are things I’ve learned and so many things I’m still discovering/recovering. Just to enjoy drawing and writing again, even this post, is on the path. And now, PART 2 of this update! I’m birthing a new project- @makefunstudio ! in east wburg bk. It’s a makerspace for wearable art. It’s a community art studio. It’s an offering. It’s an experiment in expression for all. ✴GET INTO IT! ✴ ⭐ Our Launch Party is Tuesday Feb 17th (mardi gras! lunar new year! come!) Follow @makefunstudio 💜 Become a studio member! 🧡 Come to Open Studio Sessions *every tues*! all the things are in my b!o + here 👉makefunstudio.com Also lmk any classes you would want to take… or teach?! and remember… In a system that wants you to mindlessly consume, creating art is a radical act. Let’s get radical together! 🙌

Celebrating 10 years of getting fancy in the same small dressing room at @houseofyesnyc so here are some antique photos of fave looks throughout the decade. Including the night @karlkarlson69 was born (first as a felon, later becoming just a perv) Fun fact: the dressing room also used to be the falafel shop. Enjoy!

The current House of Yes opened ten years ago this week. Ten years is a decade. It is a very short amount of time in the grand scheme of existence- and yet a very very long time when it comes to nightlife. When we (finally) opened this third iteration , It was new years 2016 and facebook was relevant and instagram was still new and TikTok didn’t exist. I was 29. Five partners had spent 2 years and a gut-wrenching amount of money turning a warehouse into our dream venue. We were bold and broke and ambitiously hungry in all the right ways. We didn’t really anticipate being a success story. It was luck. It was work. It was divine timing and brutal grit. Pure naivety mixed with just enough smarts to figure it all out together. It was also a combination of helpers and friends and strangers and angels and energies and cultural zeitgeists that made it work. I truly think as much as we wanted House of Yes to happen, the universe wanted it happen even more. Blood. Sweat. Tears. Fears. Hopes. Cigarettes and spackel and spreadsheets. Mistakes and miracles. It has since blossomed into something beyond our wildest dreams. Balanced by an occasional wildest nightmare to keep us humble and keep things interesting. I’m sure some of you reading this haven’t been to HOY in a while. Or maybe never? Regardless, this is your reminder to celebrate the turning of time and dance with friends and strangers and feel the magic that still floats in the air, after all these gaddamn years. Sure, Maybe HOY feels different than it did in 2016 but don’t we all? Come this weekend. Or anytime this year. Just remember to enjoy what we have while it’s here because nothing lasts forever and we will all be gone someday, nightclubs and all ✨ Thank you to all of you- the partners, the patrons, the artists, the team, the back-of-house heroes, the invisible angels for making this historic moment possible. See you on the Dancefloor! Ps. Scroll to see some truly ancient @houseofyesnyc construction photos.

Being surrounded by creative geniuses is the most stimulating way to live. Deep bow to @nativenomad for bringing @summit to Detroit! Everyone came away wanting more of the culture that city offers. And the music! I think this was my best of 7. Hats off to @doylehuge for bringing his art cars around, too!
