Look up in the sky! It's a bird? It's a plane? It's... Masayoshi Takanaka! Kadobara and DJ B are playing a show again at The Whistler, 7pm on September 4th. We'll be spinning some cool tunes to (hopefully) usher in some cooler weather. Bring your friends, bring your family, bring your best weather spells. We've got the vibes, The Whistler has the drinks, you bring the dance moves.
WE WANT YOU... to come out Thursday, August 7 at 9 PM to @whistlerchicago to hear some funky tunes! Celebrate the heat wave (hopefully) breaking by dancing the night away with tasty cocktails and excellent vibes. We'll bring the records, you bring the moves. DJ B will start out the night and set the tone. Be there or be square.
Weather's getting warmer but grooves remain as cool as ever. Come celebrate surviving the winter with some saucy tunes straight from Japan, live from The @whistlerchicago at 9pm. Don't just tell your coworkers you're cooler than them, live it. Who knows, DJ B might play your favorite 90s R&B tune (only if you ask nicely)
It's a bird! It's a plane! It's... Toshiki Kadomatsu and more at The Whistler on Apirl 17th! Kaobara will be there with a special guest spinning at 9pm sharp!

“The last Sunday of the year, we close out an incredible year of City Pop nights at The Whistler. It’s been fantastic to spin vinyl in Logan Square and share the timeless sounds of Japan’s golden era of music with all of you.
Thank you to The Whistler for opening your doors and your hearts to City Pop and creating a space where music, community, and nostalgia came together so beautifully. And thank you for showing up, dancing, vibing, and keeping this music alive in Chicago.
As we say goodbye to 2024, we’re feeling optimistic about what’s ahead. Stay tuned—2025 is full of possibilities, and we’re excited to keep sharing music with you in new ways.” — City Pop Night crew

Just Announced—November 21—City Pop Night at @whistlerchicago featuring @kado_bara and @vanpaugam , spinning a collection of 70s and 80s Japanese vinyl. Expect vintage Japanese anime, cinema, and other nostalgic visuals on the projector for a fully immersive experience.
City Pop is a genre that’s not easily pinned down, often blending western influences with high production values and a distinct mood. While that may sound vague, it’s an instantly recognizable sound—bubbly, euphoric, and drenched in nostalgia. It’s like sipping a cold soda on a warm summer night in Tokyo, circa 1985, even if you weren’t alive or ever lived in Japan. Something like that…

August 22—City Pop Night @whistlerchicago ft. @kado_bara & @vanpaugam spinning all 70s and 80s Japanese vinyl. Vintage Japanese anime, cinema, and miscellany will also be played on the projector for an immersive experience.
City Pop as a genre is not as clearly defined as most others, and is usually categorized by having some western influence, high production quality, and a specific mood. As nebulous as that seems, it’s also almost immediately recognizable. The sound is fizzy, euphoric, and nostalgic, like having an ice-cold pop on a hot Summer night in Tokyo ‘85, but maybe really you weren’t even born yet, and never lived in Japan. Something like that…🥤
