A night with @munyachawawa ’s Black Boys Theatre Club When Chawawa isn’t releasing viral rap skits, appearing on TV shows such as The Great British Bake Off, or posting witty political sketches to his millions of social media followers, he can be found at the theatre. He goes to several shows a month. “Theatre makes me so happy. It’s like being able to step inside a dream where anything can happen”, he tells @kadishmorris . Chawawa – who was raised in Zimbabwe then, from age 11, Norfolk – has quietly been taking school groups of young Black boys to the theatre for the past year. He announced his project Black Boys Theatre Club last October, with a promotional video featuring Black British actors such as Jordan Stephens, Kedar Williams-Stirling and Mohamed Elsandel. The project aims to “open up the world of theatre to a new generation of young Black boys” with support from the National theatre, Regent’s Park Open Air theatre, Bush theatre – and Nando’s. Read more at our link in bio as @kadishmorris joined the group for an outing to Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo at the Young Vic. Photography by @_adamajalloh

I surveyed the 2025 Turner Prize artists for Tate Etc issue 68 as proof that I can be nice. Congrats to Nnena Kalu—a joyful body of work, deserved of all the love and praise. Pictures by @realbadtime 💫

For the New York Times, I interviewed Somaya Critchlow (Feb 2025) about her Black porn magazine and Velázquez-inspired nudes. Some of the best paintings I saw last year.

Sometimes you see an exhibition that reminds you of why you’re in the business of criticism. Brazilian artist Allan Weber’s exhibition at Nottingham Contemporary was that for me this year — the only exhibition l’ve ever given 5 stars to in the Observer or the Guardian. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Machine guns fashioned from old cameras. Geometrically aligned razor blades. Coloured tarpaulin collaged together to create geometric abstractions made from tents used in Rio de Janeiro’s funk carioca parties. A large hanging installation of helmets, moped seats and insulated delivery bags, strung together with netting and bungee cords. A deliveroo bag with a lo-fi music video projected inside. Stunning, mythical, romantic, precarious, blunt. At the time of writing, I wasn’t to know l’d end up travelling around Rio, but so it go. My spirit knew why I loved this work.

I wrote a text for the exhibition catalogue for ‘Conversations’ at @walkerartgallery , published earlier this year. It was great to see many of the Black women and non-binary artists that I’ve encountered, interviewed and reviewed over the years, all in one place, in Liverpool.

Oh boy! I interviewed @damsonidris for the cover of @dazed . We spoke about Peckham, why Yorkshire has a special place in his heart, making music, auditioning for ‘Snowfall’ while working at a call centre, his jewellery line inspired by his mother, whether he’s into all the parasocial thirsting, and of course, his new film ‘F1’. Photography by @delaliayivi . Thank you @kaci0n for the edit! ✨
