The Appalachia Wildfire is currently burning through over 500 acres of the Cherokee National Forest in Polk County, Tennessee. I took these photographs of the fire from a United Airlines flight on the evening of April 15, 2026. Also included at the end are a few photos of the smaller 35-acre Old Ridge Road Wildfire further north in Roane County, Tennessee.
Sunset at Meteor Crater
Located in the desert of northern Arizona between Winslow and Flagstaff, Meteor Crater is widely regarded as the best-preserved meteorite crater on Earth. I arrived five minutes after visiting hours ended, so I drove back down the rim and up a dirt road to watch the sun lowering in the distance.
