Meet Kenya, the brilliant creative behind @k.made.it a designer from Kansas City, Missouri, who brought her stunning collection to New York during New York Fashion Week. To be honest, she was one of my absolute favorites from the show, her light, personality, wit, and confidence drew me in instantly.
Kenya represents our culture so beautifully, showcasing breathtaking fabrics and garments inspired by countries across Africa.
In this interview, she leaves us with timeless advice for anyone in the fashion industry whether you’re a designer, stylist, blogger, or simply someone looking to expand your creativity:
1️⃣ Tune out the distractions.
2️⃣ Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
3️⃣ Do all you think you can do… and then some.
Please excuse the background noise. My mics died right before the show, but I couldn’t let you miss out on meeting Miss Kenya and hearing her gems firsthand.

No Gatekeeping Here!
This post isn’t for clout—I just believe in sharing knowledge. Many of you have asked about the one and only T-shirt I wore while closing the show at Kansas City Fashion Week. I actually created it in October 2024 for my photoshoot in the Bahamas. The shirt says: “Grinding Like TG.”
That’s because I’m out here grinding like Mr. Tony Gaskins Jr., someone I’ve proudly supported since 2019. I listen to him at least 8 to 12 hours a day on YouTube and I’m a part of his Blessed Tribe. Over the years, I’ve purchased around 30 of his courses—haven’t taken them all yet, but I will.
Shout out to Mr. Gaskins, I stay inspired. I’m setting myself up for retirement while doing what I love. I’m 53 years old and started sewing in 2021. I started my business , K.Made.It on July 28, 2023. I created journals and puzzles books on Amazon. I also plan to start back being a Life Coach. Yes, I also got my Life Coach certification from Tony Gaskins Academy.
Now, do me a favor—go out and support Tony Gaskins Elite Foundation. If you can, send a donation! He’s making a real impact, especially in the basketball world for teenage boys. I’m a boy mom and my son participated in many sports like baseball, basketball, wrestling, football, track, chess and speaking competitions.
If you need a mentor, I highly recommend My Mentor USA. Tony isn’t just about relationships—he’s all about business too. If you’re serious about leveling up, go invest in yourself.
Keep grinding!! I tell myself everyday, The money is coming Kenya. Yes, my name is Kenya Martin and if K.Made.It so can you.”
