While serving time in the Korean military I dreamed of traveling when it was impossible to do so. The closest I could come was to lay down atop the roof of the barracks at mealtime, staring up into the sky while imagining I was flying.
I had a similar experience during the pandemic lockdown, this time it wasn’t just me but everyone.
Meringue, my installation in West Hollywood was created to give hope and allow people to travel without moving, not physically but through their imagination. During the most challenging times making Meringue a reality during lockdown, grit and resilience were rewards.
My deepest thanks goes to the Arts Committee and staff of the City of West Hollywood who believed and supported me. I hope you can enjoy Meringue now through September 11th before deinstallation.
