I found this slither of a book of Fernando Pessoa’s poems on my first day in Porto before starting the Camino the next morning at sunrise. I read the poems like I would the tarot or perhaps the weather forecast. Each one reflected to me the words I needed to feel that day, for concerning myself with the weather had no great significance on the road. The rain didn’t wait for me. I walked with water in my pockets. A luminous form hovers in darkness, neither object nor symbol, but a suggestion of a portal, an offering, or something sealed away. Untitled (Altar), 2023-24 [Goodbye to All That] Oil on canvas 270x230 cm Goodbye to All That is a body of work, in the very sense of that word because all elements of the exhibition belong to the same structure, share the same nervous system. This organism is made up of stories, like the cycle of frescos of the life of Saint Francis, painted by Giotto in the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi. The large paintings are a 1:1 size replica of Giotto’s frescos to underline the methods of storytelling, education of the masses and the manufacturing of a particular belief, used in religious artworks of the 14th and 15th centuries.
