A new work within the Wundertüte series by Julia Willms titled O opens 28 November 2025 at 19.00 hrs as part of the Out of the Box exhibition at Galerie Obrist. A limited amount is available to purchase via the gallery online shop from 4 November. Since 2008, Julia Willms has made a series of images for the context of the Wundertüte, a concept in which artworks are sold in a sealed bag. The person buying knows the name of the artist but only gets to see the work after buying it. Julia has made an image a year for this context, a derive of spaces combining organic, digital and imaginary elements, processed into digital collages. Every new space collage is made around one element of the previous image. This way, the works are both independent images and together they create a series over time. The collectors can follow the process knowing every new image will be in dialogue with the previous. Episode 16. This episode is a conversation between Victoria Pérez Royo, curator of the series, choreographer and artist Andrea Božić and visual artist Julia Willms. Andrea and Julia have collaborated since 2003, making interdisciplinary works that reorganise space, attention and perception, exploring how spectatorship, imagination, and spectacle are intertwined and embodied. Together, they explore the nature and practice of capturing and interpreting dreams. They discuss research on dreams, dream logic, and the immersive virtual environments that dreams create. Dreaming Communities is a series of þ thorns þ, curated by Victoria Pérez Royo. The series hosts invited artists who work with ‘dreaming substance.’ Here the adjective “dreaming” does not refer solely to nighttime sleep, but serves as an umbrella term for a whole series of images that have been conceived in a fragmentary and scattered way in various disciplines and practices: memories, anticipations, daydreams and night dreams, ghosts and specters, visions, and hallucinations, among others. Engaging with the theme of the main exhibition, “Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere,” Vlatka’s project accumulated artworks from a wide-ranging group of international artists living “as foreigners,” invited to exchange artworks with Horvat reflecting on questions and urgencies of the diasporic experience. The artworks were circulated between Venice and other locations through improvised networks of friends, travelers and strangers acting as informal couriers. Several Agents guide the dreamer to embody, navigate and visualize it, separating dream image from dreamer’s subjectivity. Each session is live, unique and improvised. Participants may join actively or simply observe — no dream recollection required. This edition features a dream by Victoria Pérez Royo, followed by a discussion on her research and curatorial project Dreaming Communities. Dreaming Communities is an Artea project in which a group of researchers and artists work around images of the dreaming substance, images that do not have material support outside the body: memories, anticipations, visions, ghosts, daydreams, and night dreams. Victoria Pérez Royo is professor of Aesthetics (Unizar), Artea researcher, co-director of the MA in Performing Arts Practice and Visual Culture (UCLM, Reina Sofía Museum 2010-2019) and guest lecturer on various international practice-based research programs.
