@words_of_women RIP to another legend — Catherine O’Hara the Canadian actor and comedian whose career spans more than four decades across television, film, and improvisational comedy. She first rose to prominence as a key cast member of Second City Television (SCTV), where her fearless character work helped define the show’s satirical tone and earned multiple Emmy Awards.
She became widely known to mainstream audiences for her film roles, including the frantic mother Kate McCallister in Home Alone and Home Alone 2, Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice, and Kevin’s mother in Home Alone. Her long-running collaborations with director Christopher Guest—Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration—cemented her reputation as one of the great improvisational actors of her generation.
In television, O’Hara reached new heights as Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek, a role that earned her an Emmy Award and introduced her to a new generation of viewers. She has also appeared in Six Feet Under, Temple Grandin, The Nightmare Before Christmas (voice), and numerous animated and dramatic projects.
Known for her total commitment and precision, O’Hara has built a body of work defined by women who are exaggerated, vulnerable, and unforgettable—played without apology.
