Trailer for Azul: a coming-of-age story, a Lady-Lowrider story, an AFI short-film. 🩵🎬✨🎥 Azul is a film about a teenage girl struggling to cope with the loss of her older sister. In the midst of this hardship she finds solace within an unexpected community: a Lady Lowrider Club. This short-film will be premiering later this year ~ Spring/Summer 2025. ———————————————————- This film was seriously a special one to be a part of, and for a variety of reasons. Coming from someone who was born and raised alongside my sister here in Los Angeles, this particular story really hit home. Whether it is the fact that our settings were resemblant of familiar houses and streets, the fact that we were highlighting a core part of L.A. subcultures, or the fact that I got to work the Costume & Wardrobe Department with my very own sister, this project was an absolute dream come true. Helping bring life to the outfits/looks that our amazing writer and director, Santos Arrué, my sister, and I imagined up was a task that all felt very natural and trusting. Everything from pulling inspiration for the “Yahritza” nameplate and rhine-stoning the “Traviesa” tee to getting the actual varsity jackets that the Lady Lowriders wear and detailing them out in JP fashion felt organic within the world and scenes we were creating as well as the story we were telling. So much thanks to @giisellelopezz , @brenda_thewanderer , @iamjencastro , and @jakegomez1989 for being such a fun, lovely, and hilarious cast to work with 🎭🧳💅 y’all always met @ashleyalvarez.mua , my sister, and I in the middle when it came to all of your looks. Also, a special thanks and shouts out to the hearts/leaders of Azul: @santosarrue , @yoko_chen150 , @jessicaburnam , @lee.l.main , and @genevieveagar for allowing my sister and I to be a part of this Azul family and contribute to such a beautiful story. Eternally grateful for the experience, time-spent together, and the amazing film we were able to create 🤩💙🎞️

Poster for 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄𝙛 𝙒𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙮, a short-film starring @jillianbell + @gloriagloriacole and directed by @stephensteelman 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄𝙛 𝙒𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙮 is a film about a loveless Entity, Sam, who is forced to hop body-to-body between people experiencing alcoholic blackouts. On this journey, Sam meets a fellow wanderer, Grace, who embraces the endless chaos of jumping from body-to-body. However, before the booze fade and sobriety separates them forever, we are left to find out whether these Entities can learn to accept their fate. ———————————————————————- This was such a magical production to be a part of!! With the world that @stephensteelman and @ce_nest_pas_complique imagined up, we were tasked to bring Costumes & Wardrobe that would help portray such specific places in the world ~ a French movie theater and an Egyptian school bathroom just to name a couple. On this project, @hand_of_faithima led the way as Costume Designer while @juliette.perrault helped as Set Costumer and @j.p.erspective supported as ACD/Key Costumer. Whether it be dirtying up a movie theater patron or designing a school emblem, we were responsible for bringing nuanced details to each costume so that each character really felt like they were from that place on the globe. And when it came it the our amazing leads, @jillianbell and @gloriagloriacole , Faithima took the wheel. Faithima designed and put together looks that illustrated the dualities and contrast between the two characters but showed how they also were one and the same. We really could not be prouder to have been a helping hand in this production! 🧳🪡🧵 Thank you to @hcmartinez and @bridgerzadina for trusting us and guiding us with the vision! Thank you @mackenziemcmahon_ for being such a great Production Designer to work and create worlds with! Thank you @samdavidzhang for lighting the most beautiful scenes so precisely! And thank you to @stephensteelman , @jillianbell , @gloriagloriacole , and the rest of the cast & crew for all being so amazing and such a blessing to work with.

Trailer for Fowl Play which premieres tonight at AFI Fest during Conservatory Showcase 4 🦃🎬 Fowl Play is a narrative short-film about Julia, a strong-willed single mother, who is determined to provide a Thanksgiving dinner for her children at all costs. However, in the pursuit of putting together this family dinner everything begins to spiral into a chaotic holiday fiasco. ————————————————————— This short-film Costume & Wardrobe wise was surely challenge. From the distressing, discoloring, and aging of the dresses that Tessa and Beth wear to the amount of cast we had for our days at the Spa and Grocery store, we knew the workload of this one was not going to be any easy feat. However, we made it happen and I could not be more excited to see this story and world come to life. With the help of our Set Costumer, @t.bby.c , we were able to cruise through the easy days and tough it out for all the challenging ones. Also, having @kimberlyshannonmurphystunts young one alongside her hilarious co-stars surely made the experience a blast. Playing soccer, being bullied, and shot with arrows by 10 year olds is fun when kids like Capri, Joan, and Leo are around. Thank you so much to @anabellelmx for trusting me with this vision she had for the story. Your direction and infectious enthusiasm guided us throughout this whole production. Thank you to @shamspasha for always trying to provide the Costume/Wardrobe department with what we needed and also honestly providing everyone with what they needed. Thank you to @nevo_shirazi for capturing the scenes, performances, set design, costumes, etc. all in a manner so fitting for the world we created. Thank you to @mojiang2000 for allowing me to compliment your great Production Design work with my Costume Design contributions. Poster for On-Air 📺📽️ A short-film that premiered at the 2024 AFI Cinematography Showcase which we were lucky enough to be part of and have a hand in. On-Air is a visual essay about a News Anchor processing what seems to be the end of his career as an Anchorman. As he sits in the studio surrounded by the leftover repercussions of a wrap party, breaking news hits the airwaves. With the help of his Producer, Cameraman, and Studio Page, he is then called back to the broadcast chair one last time. ————————————————————
 @j.p.erspective and @darlabaumer were once again blessed enough take on the Costume Design & Wardrobe Styling of this beautiful project. With heavy inspiration from the 60s, this short-film was a dream to Costume Design & Style. Sal, Scout, Billy, and Andrew were all absolute dreams to work with. With the help of what these talented actors already had in their closets and the pieces that we sourced, we were able to have the detailing down on all of the wardrobe. The world built through the Production Design, Costume Design, Expressive Acting, and Stunning Cinematography results in what we think is a great resemblance of a true-to-life 60s news broadcasting studio. It was a joint effort that came down to the styling and decision-making of what pieces we would pull from their personal closets and what we would source to add that finishing touch. This project taught me that sometimes working with what you got and just adding a simple touch can be as far as you need to go. It doesn’t have to always be so extensive. Less is more. Trailer for Shangri-La 🏫 A short-film that recently premiered at the Los Angeles Shorts International Film Festival and one that we were extremely lucky to be part of as Costumer Designer and Key Costumer. Shangri-La is a story about a jaded widower named Joe who seems to be losing the lust to continue living his life. While searching for someone to bring the kind of excitement and pleasure he yearns for, he discovers that his old high-school crush, Daphne, has moved into the same Retirement Community. With the help and advice from his good friend, Alma, Joe decides to give one last crack at love. In his pursuit for Daphne, we see Joe open doors to opportunities and situations that he did not expect. ————————————————————
 This was a comedic, heartfelt short-film that we were blessed enough to do the Costume Design and Wardrobe Styling for. When composing essentially three to four looks for each of our main actors, we tried to use the costuming as a means to add to the characters’ arcs within the film. By including changes in the styling and a bit of color theory, we were able to successfully present the characters in a way that matched their different mental, physical, and emotional points in the film. With help of Rhys’ great directing, the amazing acting we see from Max, Susan, and Jenny, and input from our Key Costumer {Sam}, these characters and costumes really come to life. Since short-films come with such a tight time-constraint, a lot of times it is hard to fall in love and be persuaded by the characters. However, with Shangri-La that is not the case. The themes, ideas, characters, and storytelling of this one definitely play with the strings in your heart. That’s why we are so excited to see the kind of festival run it makes this year 🎥🎞️🤩 Thank you so much to @jeffrey_ramoss , @kevinshanmugam , @skye_zhuqingli , @hannahzrice , @mannyrothman , and @rhys_er for giving us the opportunity to do the Costuming & Wardrobe of Shangri-La 🫶🏽🫂 Despite everything we had to go through {y’all know what I’m talking about}, the people and energy behind this was truly one of a kind. And that definitely shows on the big screen.

Premiering Friday, August 9th at the American Film Institute 🏥🎬 FCBK is a dramedy following Tati Reyas, a strong-willed medical assistant at Women’s Choice Clinic. In the midst of the abortion clinic being understaffed and underfunded, there is an arrival of a new hire and the responsibility of training this ambitious new clinician, Kucera. Tati becomes insecure of her own background and education while political tensions mount outside and the clinic starts to feel unsafe. However, Tati must overcome her own insecurities to keep the new girl from quitting before the end of the day. ————————————————————
 We were lucky enough take on the Costume Design & Wardrobe job of bringing life to the looks of these different people one may see in this abortion clinic ~ Women’s Choice Clinic. With the characters ranging from Tati, Kucera, and Sophie to Dr. Clifford, Jenna, and Kelly, we were given the task of envisioning the wardrobe of long-time medical assistants of the clinic, students looking for newfound experiences, clinical receptionist interactions, doctors working on the procedures, and patients looking for a choice to make on their own. In a time where the Rights to an Abortion are under threat and the ability for Women to make choices for their own bodies is being pulled away right in front of our eyes, this film sheds light on a place and topic that is heavily impacting our country, the political climate, and the people within the states that are being governed and forced to live by laws politicians apathetically see fit. By giving both a dramatic and comedic feel to the environment and circumstances, we are able to gain an understanding of how these abortion clinics function and inspire conversations about a topic that deserves to be discussed.
