In the timespan I’ve known Twitch the past 15 years I went from fan, to dance rival, to “Co-worker” and then friend. I first caught wind of Twitch watching him on the Wade Robson project (WRP) and remember being pissed that he lost. Several years later I encountered him in a battle we entered called “In the Spotlight”. In the Spotlight was actually pivotal because it was an event where nearly all the current top dance crews/dancer’s friendships were made. At the time I didn’t know it was Twitch from WRP- as a young battle hungry kid trying to make a name for himself, I saw him as a rival. I didn’t get to know Twitch until we spent almost everyday with each other shooting Step Up 4 Revolution. It was a time when I was still figuring myself out as a person and dancer. I found it crazy to be working with him and the crew.. Outside of the film we had hours of session footage filmed on somebody’s iPhone 4. There was a moment when I was test fitting a skin tight suit for one of the scenes and I decided to ninja run around set like an idiot and one of the PAs came up to me saying the Executive Producer wanted to talk me- I thought I was fcked. She told me she wanted “that” in a scene- I thought it was a joke until it actually got in the F*cking Movie 😂. After the shoot, Twitch along these lines said to me “Bro I didn’t even have to act- laugh, I laugh laughed”. I’m glad to have made you laugh for real.. but brother, how long were you acting for? Twitch had an ability to mirror your energy when he talked to you- I believe its why he made everyone feel so comfortable. He was also very magnetic- everyone wanted to be around him. When we were about to talk deep, someone would call to him or a group would gather and we gave each other the “all good, I’ll catch you later” look. This happened often. We would catch each other subsequently at different events and jobs but I personally lost touch when I started stepping away from the dance scene during the pandemic. I was happy to see where he took himself. I don’t think anyone who partook fully in the dance community went as far as he did. (Continued in comments)

It’s been almost 7 years since I choreographed anything but i had to pull out the stop for my dear friend @travelingdancer lol i thought I was just gonna perform a set but ended up designing a whole scene to kick off the Burning Man-esque festivities We only had time to rehearse once (like an hour lol) and stage on site- i didn’t know we were gonna light the Phoenix until a couple hours before showtime.. I just knew for this to be executed with the type of timing the event demanded- I had to control the flow of the show in a way that moved like a story, all the way from bringing back an old version of street performer Jet to moving the crowd in position knowing Audrey would come through the middle to light the Phoenix.. the amount of stress I had hoping my communication with the fire team and dancers was strong enough in that last hour had my balls sweating.. I finalized all of it literally an hour before show and it woulda been shit if the Phoenix didn’t light on time 😂 I kept running it back in my mind after the show wondering if I could’ve done it better considering the time we had.. guess it means i still got the juice. .. Maybe the juice will carry onto something bigger 🤔 Zregardless of where we go in life I hope these implant as core memories for everyone who attended- cheers and happy blated @travelingdancer @weixing2100 for an awesome event and thx to @kaimera.sky for supplying the streams 🙏

If you knew exactly how much time you had left on this Earth would you still move the same? Would you still get angry over shit you saw on the internet or would you double down on the things that really matter ?

For the past 6 years I walked this Earth not really telling people I was a dancer. Even though for most of my life it’s what I identified myself by. But when you see the world not led by an identity everything becomes a different experience. You see how humans function without any perception of you so you’re free to wander the world like any other dude. I feel like most people can’t walk this world without an identity but i feel like there has to be a time you let it go..
That becomes the time you get to ask yourself questions about who you really are without the world telling you who to be. As an artist who cares about the process that’s something I needed to feel. The idea of the ego is complex but it becomes simple when you learn to let it go. In the past 6 years I built a different mentality and I kept thinking about how I can return to the “old self” but the reality is I had to work things around the self thats now here. Through out this time away from dance my cornerstones were still anchored with Funny Bones Crew and Kinjaz. Even though both identities have their focus in dance- take it away and you see what it’s really about. Even with my identity stripped away I was still treated like one of their own.. That’s how you know its real. FBC to me represents a vibe of Los Angeles street culture that’s nearly extinct. It’s a movement symbolic to Chicano and LA gang Pop Lock culture that still lives in some neighborhoods but for the most part has nearly dried out. FBC has become that conservative movement for the style. My dance movement is rooted in my cornerstones but told through the story of the present self you know as Jet. And it looks like Jet may be making a comeback 2026 onward… This also a personal “In the Darkness (Just Jet Edit)” I made I might post somewhere who knows 🤔 #poppindance #poplock #robot #animationdance #claralasan

Throwback, its 2009… It’s your first time at this dance event called @officialbodyrocksd that everybody’s been talking about. They’re hosting an “All styles” Dance Battle before the event. This was when All Styles Dance Battles were just becoming a thing and energy drinks didn’t have the pockets for it yet- You enter and battle some of the craziest dancers from all over California.. and you win. Yea the glory and all that was coo, but the real win was getting to know the owner of Body Rock so she can hook you up with tickets every year 🤌 This same owner would show up to your dance classes and would stand in the back trying to figure out wtf you’re teaching bc your teaching skills were hella mid but she’s still friendly enough to like your dancing. You and the owner stay friends through all your wins and then there was a period where both of you were like “fck dancing, i’m over this shit.” ..But her dance event got hella hype and went global so she had to keep it going. Turns out her event got franchised in the Philippines and you happen to be in Manila at the same time. Yall meet up at this restaurant that gives you the bubble guts but it’s so good you still fck with it anyways. Anna starts speaking tagalog to the waiter and you can’t help but keep from laughing- She’s like “bro what’s up??” Your like, “dude your tagalog sounds way too American 💀” Anna, you always been quiet about your life.. but when you ask for help we’ll always show out for you🤞 Thanks you for everything 🕊️🎗️

The longer I explore the Philippines the more I realize I’m NOT Filipino American ❌🇵🇭🇺🇸.. I’m American Filipino 🇺🇸🇵🇭 And I say this as a matter of fact, even if you’re of filipino blood and you don’t sound or act like a native filipino in the Philippines they won’t see you as one of them, they’ll see you like any other foreigner.. and I know this because of how differently I’m treated by the locals when I’m adapting to the culture- How I got out of a traffic ticket (respectfully) speaking the basic Tagalog I have, or when they offer me discounts from the jump when I solely speak tagalog to the shopkeepers.. If you show respect to the culture (even if you’re just trying) they’ll treat you (and charge you lol) like you’re one of their own. People say USA doesn’t have a culture but you only really recognize it when you’re outside the States. You notice how different you are when you meet other English speakers from around the world, or when you’re around Americans and you can nearly tell which state or region they’re from just from hearing their accents. The US has a way of promoting cultural diversity from its own point of view but it hits different when you step out into the world and see how the world views you. I’m def proud to be Filipino but I’m proud to rep America too (even if its not the popular thing to rep like in some parts of America right now lol) #elnidopalawan #elnido #tarawcliff #🇵🇭 #elnidophilippines
