A lot of “compostable plastics” aren’t actually meant for your home compost bin. Most only break down in special industrial facilities – and many cities don’t even have them. That means these products often end up in landfills, incinerators, or get pulled out of compost as contamination. And while they’re marketed as a greener option, they still keep us stuck in the same throwaway culture. Real change means using less single-use stuff in the first place – not just replacing plastic with another disposable material. Bring your own cup. Your own utensils. Your own straw when you can 💚 This is You Ask, We Answer. What question should we answer next? 👇 #ZeroWaste #Compostable #PlasticPollution #Reuse #Greenwashing #Sustainability #WasteReduction

Chemical recycling facilities only lead to potentially dangerous, toxic, and climate-damaging effects. It DOES NOT help us or the planet. 1) We don’t need more plastic. ❌ 2) We need real solutions, not a toxic cycle! ☠️ Read more via the 🔗 in our bio. #Sustainableliving #environmentaladvocacy #SystemicChange #chemicalrecycling #plasticpollution #recyclingtips #greenwashing #recyclingmyths #recycling #plastic

Working for an environmental nonprofit ruined some foods for me (but I'm also grateful). And once you know, you can't un-know. 🍽️🚫 👉 Tea bags: 96% of tea bags are sealed with plastic, which sheds billions of microplastics per cup. 👉 Seafood: Microplastics were detected in 99% (180 out of 182) of seafood samples purchased at the store or obtained from a fishing boat. Plastic pollution in our oceans is vast, and fish often mistake floating plastic for food – ingesting it. When larger fish consume smaller fish that have eaten plastic, the amount of plastic carried by the fish biomagnifies. 👉 Water / Bottled water: Microplastics are present in both bottled and tap water, but studies have found that bottled water contains 100 times more microplastics (about 240,000 tiny particles) than tap water. 👉 Non-organic food: Organic means avoiding harmful chemicals like PFAS, which are often found in conventional farming practices. It is also free from synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. 👉 Food wrapped in plastic: Studies have found microplastics in various food items, including packaged meats, seafood, and processed foods, with the contamination often linked to plastic packaging materials. It's time to demand better. 🌎💪 #ZeroWaste #PlasticFreeFuture #EnvironmentalJustice #Ifyouknowyouknow #CantUnlearn

You’re still going to buy what you need. But what if just one purchase went toward funding solutions instead? There are approximately 230 million Amazon shoppers in the U.S. If each person skipped or redirected just one $50 purchase a year, that’s $11.5 BILLION toward real environmental solutions. That kind of funding could: – pass stronger waste reduction laws – hold corporations accountable for greenwashing – protect communities from toxic pollution – build systems that actually reduce waste At Just Zero, that’s exactly what we’re working toward 💚 We don’t have a trash problem – we have a system problem. And systems can change. If you’re able, support an environmental nonprofit doing this work – by donating, sharing, or getting involved. And tell us – what organizations do you trust and support? #supportnonprofits #supporttheplanet #votewithyourwallet

Companies market products as “sustainable” or “recyclable” – even when the reality tells a different story. 72% of companies admit to inflating their sustainability efforts. That’s not a small problem – it’s a system built on misleading claims. When companies can label products as “green,” “recyclable,” or “eco-friendly” without proof, it shifts the burden onto consumers to figure out what’s real – and what’s not. Meanwhile, pollution continues and real solutions get sidelined. We shouldn’t have to decode marketing just to make better choices. Truth in Labeling laws change that. They set clear standards, require real evidence behind environmental claims, and hold companies accountable when they mislead the public. Because if it’s not backed by data, it SHOULDN'T be on the label. Take action: Tell your state leaders to pass a strong Truth in Labeling law via the link. #TruthInLabeling #Greenwashing #ZeroWaste #ClimateAction #JustZero
