Hi, I’m Willy — born in Mao, Dominican Republic. Since I was a kid, I’ve loved taking things apart — fans, tools, even motorcycles — just to understand how they worked. I never threw anything away if I thought I could fix or improve it. That curiosity has guided my whole life.
Immigrating to the U.S. was tough. I worked hard to support my mother and two younger brothers, even while trying to find my own path. Then everything changed: I met Xenia during one of her trips. We fell in love, and a few months later, I moved across the ocean — this time not for survival, but for love.
That’s when I started learning diamond setting. Jura gave me just a few days of training before leaving for Canada. I was thrown into a new country, new life, new language, and a world-famous family legacy. I had to earn my place — not as the son-in-law, but as someone who could truly carry the name.
I trained nonstop. Failed. Improved. And slowly found my way. Soon, I wasn’t just setting stones — I was assembling every JURA Ball Vise and Graver system by hand. For the last three years, I’ve been responsible for every one that leaves our workshop. I take that responsibility seriously.
Today, I’ve also stepped into Jura’s role as instructor. I teach international students with the same passion and precision we bring to our tools. And I’ve taught myself to photograph and film — sharing our story through the same hands that build our tools.
Now I work beside my wife Xenia, and I’m proud to carry this craft forward. What we’re building isn’t just a business — it’s a legacy for our children and the next generation of setters and makers.
We’re building something lasting — and I look forward to growing it together with our community.

Firstly, yes, there's an obvious bit missing from the middle of this video where I actually do the sculpted scroll design and I promise I didn't forget to film that bit on purpose! I just got too engrossed in the work. There will be more clips of sculpting to come.
Having said that, if you're interested in learning how that sort of engraving is done then you have the chance! I'll be teaching it with @juratools in Vigo at the end of August (25th-30th) and their master setter Willy will be there teaching the setting work as well so you get two for the price of one! If you're really keen you can even stay on for another week after that and get to learn from the amazing @saburovart as well, all the while having easy access the beach ⛱️ in the afternoon to wind down after a hard day engraving. I can wait!
