if u knew me before I found myself, I’m so sorry OUT NOW!!!!! ~FOR THE QUEERS, THE OUTCASTS, BIPOC, IMMIGRANTS, AND THOSE WHO ARE FED UP WITH THE CURRENT STATE OF THE WORLD~ Five years ago I had the riff written for “yer lil waste of time.” Five years ago was the same time that I lost my grandpa, Terry Driver, my best friend in the world and the man who helped raise me alongside a community of family, as well as two important friendships in my life that just needed to be done. I was going thru so much pain. Yer lil waste of time was the song that got me out of the rut. Kya and I had to move to Iowa to save our money to get out here to Portland, something we didn’t want to do but literally had to bc we had no choice, so I just kept writing. Had to move from what i knew best type shit. We lived in a basement, no walls to separate anything, just us,our cats, and my music equipment inside of what was practically our bedroom, and I just kept writing. Before I knew it I had the whole album written and recorded. I sat recording myself playin every damn instrument, mixed, mastered, spent hours of my life just making sure it was as good as it could be to me. It finally turned out. I couldn’t be happier with what I got out of it. You can do this too. Shit started in 2014 with a rocksmith guitar cable, and Kya’s church-donated laptop with garage band. I started to medically transition thru during this time, as well as learned to cope with pain n shit in healthier ways besides just drankin and smokin all day. I started makin new friends, family, moved to Portland finally, and found my footing. This album being there with me to watch me grow the whole time. I hope that this album can provide you the same sense of hope, comfort, and happiness, as it gave to me. Something we all so desperately need rn. Stick together, watch out for ya people, fuck the law fuck the police and fuck ICE. Fuck trump and the White House. Fuck this state of the world. We’re better than all that shit, let’s do somethin bout it. I am so fucking proud to be a trans woman from the south Im proud that im still here today and that i made it to where i am now. being from Alabama, what can be an incredibly conservative/ bigoted environment, i felt that i to stay closeted. growing up i was never fully comfortable to be my self. I knew it wouldn’t end well on my end, so i just hid. It wasn’t until i got involved with diy in Birmingham that i finally realized i could be me for real. The people involved there know how the fuck to be themselves regardless of what anyone thinks of them. I wanted so badly for that to be my story, and by being around that scene as much as I could, it’s safe to say It is my story too. I miss Alabamas queer community so much, and I know yall are holding it the fuck down. I’m in Portland now, I’m doing as ok as possible. Younger me would be happy.
