Our hearts are Golden. â¨
The joy in the room on Saturday was palpable, it felt like Christmas morning all over again đ
The crackle of film as books were unwrapped.
Gasps of delight and surprise as people saw their own pieces â and each otherâs â in print.
New connections sparked. Longstanding collaborations deepened.
Golden is a beautiful hardback filled with luminous words and embroidered with striking images.
Over 230 pages shaped by the hands of more than 50 ESEA contributors.
Our stories.
Our thoughts.
Our frailties and our strengths.
Our hopes and fears of being ESEA today.
Golden became what it is because we wanted to offer the world a vision not only of excellence and visibility but of plentitude and abundance. Words wider society rarely affords our voices and our community.
Our deepest gratitude to every single contributor. It has been a privilege to work with you. We value you. We thank you.
Very special thanks to our subjects without their generosity and trust, these pieces would not exist.
Thank you to our benefactor, and to Picturehouse Central for hosting our beautiful launch reception.
Golden is a limited print run. Remaining copies are available via the link in MilkTeaâs bio, and can be collected at our upcoming events in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh. More collection points to come â watch this space.
Like so much of what MilkTea, Resonate and Juniper by the Sea create, this is community-powered. So please help us share the brilliance of Golden. đ

Last Autumn, we started with a simple goal: to document the British ESEA experience on our own terms.
Today, GOLDEN is a reality. This book is a record of our collective resilience and creativity, from the New Forest to Glasgow. Itâs been a long journey from that first phone call to the final print, and we want to share the result with you.
Join us this Saturday at Picturehouse Central to hold the first edition. See @milkteafilms bio for more information on how to get tickets.

Hot off the press!
Next Saturday we launch Golden! Our annual anthology featuring ESEA thinkers, writers, artists and more! It is a time capsule of things that mattered to us in 2025. Itâs creative celebration. Itâs ESEA criticism in full flow.
And we are urging you to join us!
The launch party on Saturday, 28 February, is the first opportunity for the public to hold this piece of history. For ÂŁ30âthe price of a standard entry ticketâyou receive both access to the drinks reception and a copy of the annual (RRP ÂŁ30). Because the bar capacity is limited to 150 guests, those interested in attending are encouraged to act quickly.
This event marks the publication of a book that makes a bold statement: our stories are vital and our experiences matter. Golden provides our community with a platform to be heard and recorded for future generations.

The start of a new year often feels like a performance. We are expected to have a list of grand resolutions and a clear summary of the past twelve months. But for many of us, 2025 did not fit into a neat category. It was a year of small wins and significant setbacks.
Every time I felt I moved three steps forward, life seemed to pull me two steps back. It was a cycle of effort and resistance. There were highlights, and the ground beneath me felt more stable than before, but the feeling that things could be better remains.
The year was marked by a heavy loss. Losing a childhood friend early in the year changed how I see the days ahead. It is a harsh reminder that life is fragile. When you lose someone who knew you before the world got complicated, it forces you to look at your own path more closely.
It made me realise that health is a blessing we often ignore until it is threatened. Having a home and a family matters as much as any career milestone. These are the things that keep us steady when the work side of life feels uncertain.
I want to do more in 2026. My goal is to move out of my comfort zone and stop playing it safe. That means taking more chances and being brave enough to face criticism. Rejection is part of the process, and i need to learn to take it well.
2025 was a year of quiet progress. I am still figuring out if it was a good year, but the ship is moving. I am steering it toward something new, hoping the destination is worth the journey.

The worldâs a big place, as travel will show,
But to Hong Kong we went, to see where the wind blow.
A Starbucks addiction meant cups must be found,
For the shelves back at home, where my trophies abound.
A hike on the Dragonâs Back, a first for me,
To climb up that ridge, with a spectacular sight to see.
Then âtwas off to find treats that were meaty and grand,
Like the naked pork chop rice found across in Macau land.
We celebrated Henryâs 29th with a cheer,
And hunted for Monchichis, dispelling all fear.
The seafood was fresh, a feast of the sea,
While across to Zhuhai we went, just as happy as could be.
And though the tripâs over, the memories remain,
For the TWICE pop-up shop, where we said âWhat is Love? Again?â

I got to chat with the brilliant Mari Yamamoto ( @themariyamamoto ) about Rental Family!
Honestly, she was a joy to talk to. Her answers were so nuanced and thoughtfulâyou can tell she puts a lot of consideration into everything she does. I loved her role in the film; her character had the most complex and interesting story arc. Seriously, keep an eye on her!
In our talk, she gave a fantastic explanation of why âloneliness is an epidemicâ but how Japanâs cultural âlove languageâ created the rental family model. Plus, we explore the deep meaning behind the phrase: âSometimes the story we tell ourselves becomes the truth.â
