ALBUM TRACK SPOTLIGHT: Journey On, Side One, Track 4 ❤️
This song feels like a favourite cosy blanket for us. It appears on our 2023 EP, which included one song previously written by each of us and one together, to mark our new chapter of singing our own songs. This was @outi.karhu ’s contribution, and as soon as she played it to @aimeepsings and @lauralizzyhill the harmonies just fell into place like we’d been singing it forever.
Journey On has had a few changes to transform it into the album version, not least the key* and the feel. It’s now a beautiful jazz ballad, with brushed drums, question-and-answer between guitar and piano, tasty chords and a walking bass line.
The lyrics speak of a long-term relationship, its comforts and challenges, using imagery of story and song. It gives all the feels, and when we’re performing the song live, it’s pretty much a given one of us is close to tears by the time we get to the last line 🥺

In the run-up to our album release, we’ll be sharing some exclusive snippets of some of the tracks on the album ☺️
First up is Mimic, Side 1, Track 3! Grown from two separate song seeds brought by the lovely @aimeepsings , we then spent several weeks developing Mimic into the time-signature-bending 3-minute opus that now exists on the album ❤️
The lyrics speak from opposing voices of inner critic and intuition, with a jazzy folk melody giving way to a funky rock beat.
