We were initially hesitant at the concept of a performance like this being filmed inside an apartment - tricky floorplans, noise pollution from neighbors, & limited space for lighting configurations all contribute to a tough sell on the production end. But the more we considered this song and Justin’s writing perspective as well as hearing some of the production elements at play, it quickly became clear that there was going to be something beautiful & deeply relatable about filming a song like this inside a true living space. Watching Justin sing so vulnerably about his experiences and feelings inside his own home offers us as viewers such a powerfully open door to walk through our own experiences along with him wherever we are.
Context aside, Justin offers up a touching performance with expressive dynamic range - swinging from belted, emotion-heavy peaks to nearly whispered lyrics at its most delicate moments. The result is a captivating walk through a rich sonic memoryscape that is both sweet & impactful, without feeling forced or presumptuous.
