Bruch Stool
Recycled melted float glass
40 x 40 x 40 cm
During the production of flat glass, broken glass panels often occur, which are recycled by expending a high amount of energy. For the project "Bruch", we investigated how this energy input can be used directly to further process the broken pieces into a new object.
For this purpose, cut-offs were cut from the broken glass sheets and placed in the kiln stacked inside each other. Without additional adhesive connection the glass connects and can be used as stable stool.

Die Ruderalen (The Ruderal) explores wild plants in the standardized spaces of our cities. Making their way through asphalt and concrete, growing on walls and curbs, they often go unnoticed, are sometimes fought against and are rarely protected. Yet these urban wild plants are powerful ecological and aesthetic actors. They challenge conventional ideas of order, maintenance and value in urban space - while safeguarding biodiversity and opening up new perspectives on coexistence. Recurring in the same spots across the city, they form a silent landscape that shifts with the seasons. We documented this phenomenon over a two-year period, highlighting these plants as natural urban designers.
182 plant species, 570 photographs captured on 4,5 x 1,1 m textil

TERRA ALCHIMIA
16 January – 19 April 2026
‘Terra Alchimia – Landscape in the Making’ at @kuenstlerhausstuttgart presents our ongoing research on the transformation of soil and rock, the role of vegetation in urban space, and the reuse of agricultural by-products.
Through material transformations, architectural fragments, and urban interventions, we reimagine a built environment shaped by care, diversity, and ecological thinking.
The exhibition unfolds in two chapters:
Chapter 1 moves underground, sharing our research on local soils, rocks, ashes, and industrial waste - transformed into new building materials using geopolymer technology.
Chapter 2 brings these processes above ground: a landscape of architectural fragments connects different temporal and geological layers - states of “earth being” between materiality, growth, and transience.
The works open up new possibilities for how we move, meet, and build, while revealing the ecological potential of our environments.

We feel grateful and proud to be selected for @ad_spain ‚Best of España‘. Thank you @mariona__rubio for the great article 🌞
„Studio anima ona, founded by Freia Achenbach and June Fàbregas, is a transdisciplinary, exploratory, experimental, imaginative and above all, visionary space. From Sant Pol de Mar to Stuttgart, the duo challenges the norms with an approach that flows between material sensibility and neo-materialism, a vision that fuses technology and nature to rethink the present and build the future.
Their project “Das Stumme spricht” for the Fondation Martell is a window into their way of understanding design: a space they imagine as the living room of the future. This installation, part of the exhibition “Places to be” in 2020-2021, is just a taste of the transformative potential of their work. In addition, their research “In Fülle” turns industrial waste into architectural elements, revealing the beauty hidden in what others consider waste.
They are immersed in exploring new forms of materiality, from public benches made from recycled tiles to ash altars for a chapel in southern Germany. Now, Freia is preparing to launch a collection of ceramic shelves, and June is entering the world of lighting with his first series of lamps.
The future of anima ona promises to be as exciting as their present, and they are determined to create greener cities and develop sustainable products, collaborating with brands that share their desire to innovate and respect the environment in order to be vehicles of change, beauty and awareness. Undoubtedly, the future is in your hands.“

Masonry bench, 2023
For the @iba_2027 festival in summer’23 we designed a public bench using old roof tiles and ash from the ‚Schlossgarten‘ in Stuttgart and created a mineral binder from it. The adaptive design draws inspiration from ancient polygonal masonry, employing flush adjacent individual volumes that stabilize each other.
Size: 240 x 30 x 44 cm
Big thank you to the @iba_2027 team for the opportunity and the great collaboration!

We had a lot of fun creating the second edition of "Mit Essen Spielen" (Playing with food) at the Restaurant @imkuenstlerhaus .
Under the theme "Exploring Material", we played with different states of soil for the 3 course menu and used it to develop a platform for each course.
The event series "Mit Essen Spielen" is a cooperation between the @kuenstlerhausstuttgart and the Restaurant @imkuenstlerhaus , building a bridge between cuisine and art on three evenings this year. Thank you for the invitation @kuenstlerhausstuttgart !

Process of building the In Situ
dome with great support by the workshops of @dkbstiftung .
On view during the sculpture park exhibition “tomorrow”(03.06.-03.09.23) at Schloss&Gut Liebenberg .
The dome-like scultpure “in Situ” was created during our 10 day artist-residency at DKB Foundation. Our idea for this project was to make use of the locally available resources such as field stone, ash and old brick stones and test it as building material. We also experimented with production processes in order to avoid the need for additional materials for the molds and crated tools that allow for circular extrusion. The interplay of the materials and the production method results in a dome-like sculpture that brings the principle of corbled domes into the present time.
The object produced in situ was built in the middle of the castle garden from 24 individual rings stacked on top of each other.
