It’s a bit pretentious to begin with a David Foster Wallace quote, but then that’s kinda my bag… so 🤷🏻‍♂️. I’ve been reminded of his statement on how “perfectionism is very dangerous, because of course if your fidelity to perfectionism is too high, you never do anything. Because doing anything actually feels kind of tragic because it means you sacrifice how gorgeous and perfect it is in your head for what it really is”. In my early forays into photography & editing, I’ve found it probably brings out my ADHD tendencies to over-obsess…probably should just pull my finger out of my butt. Still buzzing from an incredible night @thefolklorerooms for the launch of their Vol. 2 vinyl release w/ @nierracreek @quakingaspensmusic and @myfriendsmezanmi . At the climactic end of the night, they all banded together, with a special cameo from Jacko, into a supergroup and morphed into their ultimate form - it was an absolute belter! Ps. Absolutely rammed @thefolklorerooms for the monthly showcase with @opalmag_music @marnieglum_ and @alexfrancismusic . Cracking show as per. I tried continuing my new discipline of using only one lens per act (mostly stuck to it). The Helios lens in particular gives interesting “character” & flares, noticeably to some of the lights, but also chromatic aberration 🤷🏻‍♂️🤓 Even included a bonus post-credits blurry shot of Jacko yelling - probably to buy a Folklore IPA 🍺 (which to be honest is a very good idea 😋). #brighton #gigphotography #folkloreroomsbrighton

Ashamed to say I didn’t know about the wildly fun @betcover_official until Nata introduced them to me recently. Lucky to catch their sold out @brixtonjamm show hosted by HK-based promotion @zenegeist ; it’s a testament to the band’s legendary cult status that some of their fans turned up like the band in full suits 🕺🏻 despite the sweltering summer’s day 🥵. Incredibly entertaining jazzy art-rock band, with insane energy and charisma. Also, probably the most badass gangster-looking flute player I’ve ever seen…and believe you me, I’ve seen a fair few in my time. #wearingsuitsplayingflutes #gigphotography

Sometimes it’s good to take a break from constantly editing photos in Lightroom (where you ironically spend hours in a darkened room staring at a screen) - tough when the sun’s so good right now; however, just when you think you’re out, shoegaze pulls you back in. This time in the form of the most-excellent emotionally-charged powerhouse @swallowtail_band ; with support from @gutterflyband (their banging debut single “Get Away Sometime” is out atm) and throwback mod-rockers @jimmy_.band . I went a bit whacky with adding texture to some of the photos which, with the background smoke, makes it look like they’re on fire 🔥 in some ways, I guess they were. #flaminghot #readytobehurtagain #brighton #shoegaze #gigphotography

Used to hate school trips to the countryside as a kid (hayfever innit), but got older and boring and learnt to appreciate the value of a good tree🌳; so, Nata and I had an ambling adventure @kneppwilding on a sunny weekend, which was a fun excuse to play with old Japanese camera lenses. Photographing Nata with a manual focus lens is somewhat akin to wildlife photography as you only have a small window to catch the moment. I’ll oft begin by ordering her 🫵 “GO STAND IN THE LIGHT”; she’ll reluctantly oblige but after a few seconds, like a skittish animal, she’ll be prone to erratic gesticulations or lapsing into a random gurn-face out of impatience (the rabbit stayed still longer). Nonetheless, I think the moral of this story is that in this crazy mad world, it’s important to remember to take the time to “GO STAND IN THE LIGHT” (and stop bloody moving or pretending your shoe is a telephone) as Buddha or Dolly Parton once said.
