Before Junbi, there was Sip, Sip Matcha and Young Bud, but our mission always remained the same - to make high quality matcha accessible to the masses. We started off from a tent and opened our very first brick and mortar with our operational partner, Jacky, nearly 10 years ago in Westwood.
May 25, 2026 will be the last day of operation of Junbi - Westwood and this decision was made after tremendous thought and consideration.
Westwood will always have a piece of us. It was where so many of you discovered Junbi for the first time and it played a huge role in shaping who we are today.
Over the years, the surrounding area has changed significantly, with increasing vacancies and a decline in the overall environment with more break-ins and vandalism. Finding the shop with broken glass and stolen property became more of a regular occurrence. Combined with rising costs, including a 16% rent increase and a transition to a month-to-month lease, it became clear that continuing to operate this location was no longer sustainable.
While this chapter is coming to a close, our commitment to Junbi and our franchise family is stronger than ever.
Stepping away from operating a corporate-owned store allows us to dedicate more time, energy, and resources to supporting our franchisees across all markets. We’ll continue to be hands-on and deeply involved in store operations, working closely with our teams to strengthen performance, improve systems, and help every location grow.
We are incredibly grateful for our investors and hard working partner, Jacky, who really poured into this location and the team through the years, our team past and present who dedicated their time to Junbi, and each of you who have supported us there over the past decade.
