“To reach the cave I had to climb down a very difficult path, also dangerous. I could point to PhotoPills and so I waited exactly for the proper timing. Foreground is a focus stacking of several minutes. The sky also is a blend of 5 x15sec with starry landscape stacking (it was really dark and frightening as the cave is deep in the rocks…) my friend Jurij and later another friend could reach me. I was focused and their chatting in the background helped me overcome fear. Processed in LR and PS.”

A few days ago I spent the night under an unusual clear sky in South Tyrol (Italy), waiting for the Milky Way to rise behind the ridges of the mountains, around 3am.

How much time do we have left to admire a night sky, before light pollution and satellites veil the mysteries of the Universe from our sight?
A few days ago I spent the night under an unusual clear sky here in South Tyrol (Italy), waiting for the Milky Way rise around 3am. These 22 x 30 seconds shots were taken from an iPhone, later processed and stretched on my laptop. I was surprised by the results, in particular by the Galactic Center visibility on the screen, considering the full automation of the night mode camera app (I only had to point the phone from a tripod and ensure the proper framing of the panorama shots) and the strong light pollution in that direction. Later on during the processing of the images, I was amazed to spot the Andromeda galaxy appearing on the lefthand side just above the horizon. Incredible how far a device that fits in a pocket, can see.

Il lavoro è parte di una serie di scatti realizzati da Human Installations. Xenia di Elena Rossi nasce a supporto dei bambini oncologici dell'ospedale Bambino Gesù e vede la sua poesia protagonista con la partecipazione di poliedrici artisti provenienti dal mondo della fotografia, della performance art e della moda.
Elena Rossi è ideatrice e anima dell'iniziativa.
Prossimamente presenteremo la serie fotografica e performativa, in dialogo con altre opere.

Attraversando queste Terre è maturata la convinzione che, visti i tempi di oscena, ostentata, compulsiva pubblicazione, la performance può ritrovare la sua sacralità se tornerà ad essere riservata a pochi individui-testimoni che si approcciano all'evento come ad un rituale, ambientato in luoghi antichi, meglio se antecedenti all'approdo dell'uomo.
