I shot this photo in 1992 when i worked for the Daily Nebraskan Newspaper… the student run and daily printed newspaper in Lincoln Nebraska. Taken in the northwestern plains of Nebraska on his ranch… the story was about Parker’s ranch life and his poetry, song writing and performances. He was showing us around the ranch when we entered this “gun shed” … At this moment he leaned onto this saddle and quietly stated… “This was my grandfather’s saddle.” There you have it. Took 3 frames of this shot Bam it became the cover of our Sower Magazine. This is an iconic image for my portfolio , it hangs framed in my home, it was a postcard I gave to people… recently reprinted for the first time in 32 years seen in next photos @reduxartcenter . I thought the negative had deteriorated a little from storage but later realized it was the enlarger creating the weird bubble effect at the bottom.

It is her 20th birthday … my last “BirthING Day” and the first time i have been separated from her on this glorious 28th of April. Maybe i put too much emphasis on birthdays BUT they are so very special because I was able to bring these amazing daughters onto the Earth and guide them into being. Happy Birthday sweet Ella (Francesca). May this year lead you to find balance and peace. Open arms are waiting for you when you return from your four-month sojourn in Europe. Last night was epic and such an amazing experience at THE Beeple Studios: Shepard Fairey OBEY & RESIST event. Personally as an artist and more recently a screen print artist, having the opportunity to not only meet and talk to Shepard but to see him in action screen printing live was truly the coolest!!! Watching his smooth technique sparked more desire to create something new!it was a pleasure meeting you Shepard! #obey

This is a must get to event with 60+ talented local artist who will have their works for sale… Everything is tax free with 15% of all sales going to support Redux Contemporary Art Center… a nonprofit organization. All the sales help support education and the mission of supporting visual arts in the Charleston area. There will be kids activities and a food truck that will add to the celebratory feel of the market. A suggested $10 in kind donation for adults. Celebrating today and tomorrow All Souls Day. This piece is a “reflection” of mourning the loss of innocence and more personally my thoughts about my daughters’ lovely innocence and their sweet childhoods … the sadness for me comes from knowing they now as adults, have seen and experienced the evils of the world and the stressors that come with it. As a mother i can no longer hold their tiny hands and protect them.
