52 Frames week 20: Meaningful Location . . . “ Hill Top Beacon ” Winter Hill is the place I’ve chosen as my meaningful location. It’s distinctive in the Northwest of England as it’s the site of the analogue TV mast that broadcast service to the region until the it became digital some years ago. For me, when I lived for many years in the south of the country, it was a sight that made me realise I hadn’t got too far left to drive when visiting my family back home. Now, by somewhat of a coincidence, I live just a walk away from its summit and It’s one of my favourite local places. Over the years, the mast has been joined by mobile masts, but it remains the only one illuminated at night, as a warning to aircraft. For people who live ‘in the shadow of the hill’ it’s a beacon and important part of the collective psyche. In 1896 it witnessed a mass trespass by local working class people objecting to the wealthy landowner’s plans to restrict access and use the land for private hunting. Working long hours six days a week in mills and factories, the locals absolutely valued their access to nature, as much as we do today. Even further back in history than that, it’s been home to neolithic people, as remains have been found in several places. I took several shots including one just before sunset with some lovely pink clouds, but I really wanted to choose one with the lights on (which happens twenty minutes or so after sunset), as that’s the most iconic view, in my opinion, so I went for this blue hour one instead. . . . . . . . . . #52frames_meaningfullocation #52frames_photographers #bluehourphotography #locallandmark #westpenninemoors @52frames @sheclicksnet @__snapher__ @womenphotographersglobal @fujifilmuk

Church flowers. . . I created this image a few weeks ago when I visited the Lake District during the Easter weekend. A walk took me to past the charming village church at St John’s in the Vale, so I popped in for a few moments. It’s beautiful in its simplicity, fittingly adorned with spring flowers that were gently backlit by the daylight streaming in through leaded windows. This is an in-camera double exposure Fused Fridays We are a group of artists who are experimenting with creating double exposures, fusing, blending and bringing a little magic to our images. This is week 20 of my 52 week double exposures #fusedbyme challenge To see all of our wonderful work head to the hashtag #fusedbyme_2026week20 . . . . . . . . #multipleexposure #churchflowers #igerscumbria_may26 @sheclicksnet @__snapher__ @womenphotographersglobal @fujifilmuk

Wild poppy . . . With a link to yesterday’s post, as there are poppies in the last image, I loved seeing so many wildflowers on my Lakes trip. As well as the bluebells, the poppies were are their best, with vibrant displays of orange and yellows. This is a double exposure of just one poppy I came across in a hedgerow, layering an out of focus shot of the flower to create softness at the edges of the petals. . . . . . . . #wildpoppy #igerscumbria #igerscumbria_may26 #thelakedistrict #wildflowerseason @igerscumbria @sheclicksnet @womenphotographersglobal @__snapher__ @fujifilmuk

Camping with traditional charm . . . During my recent trip to the Lakes, I stayed at Lanefoot Farm, a lovely independent campsite that’s part of a working farm. I couldn’t resist taking photos of the wonderful buildings there, but don’t be fooled, the campsite facilities are modern, spotlessly clean and shiny, it’s a great place to stay! I’ve also added a shot of an old retro-style petrol pump that I spotted in the nearby village of Braithwaite, it just seemed to fit alongside the photos of farm buildings. . . . . . . . #traditionalfarming #igerscumbria #igerscumbria_may26 #thelakedistrict #campervanlifestyle @igerscumbria @sheclicksnet @womenphotographersglobal @__snapher__ @fujifilmuk @lanefootfarmcampsite

Wasdale alternative . . . Yesterday I mentioned that I had a shortlist of two images for last week’s 52Frames ‘Slow Shutter’ challenge, so I thought I’d post the other option today. It was taken mid-morning on a bright day and, with the use of an ND filter, the exposure time of 60 seconds was actually longer than yesterday’s shot of 40 seconds. I admit, I still can’t decide which one I prefer - I think I’ve gone a bit photo blind with these two options. Either way, it was lovely spending time amongst the spectacular mountain scenery of Wasdale and I’m pleased I’ve come away with shots I like. . . . . . . . #wastwater #wasdale #igerscumbria_may26 #bnwlandscape #52frames_alternate @igerscumbria @sheclicksnet @womenphotographersglobal @__snapher__ @fujifilmuk

52 Frames week 19: Slow shutter . . . “ Wastwater still ” I was in the Lake District all last week, so I thought I’d opt for a landscape shot for this week’s challenge, using an ND filter to slowdown the shutter speed, smoothing out the water and the clouds. I ended up with a short-list of two, one taken around sunset and the other mid-morning, which I turned mono. After seeking input from my 52Frames sub-group, the weight of opinion was on this shot and I have to say, I like the how the fading sun is just clipping the tops of the fells plus you can see the pebbles under the lake’s surface in the foreground. . . . . . . . . . #52frames_slowshutter #52frames_photographers #igerscumbria_may26 #sunset #calmwaters @igerscumbria @52frames @sheclicksnet @__snapher__ @womenphotographersglobal @fujifilmuk

Springtime colour palette. . . Again, an in-camera multiple exposure from the beautifully scenic Rannerdale Knotts, to give a sense how the bluebells completely transform the colour of the Lakeland fellsides, complementing the also flowering gorse and hawthorn. . . . . . . . . #igerscumbria_may26 #multipleexposure #bluebellseason #the_creative_lenses #incameradoubleexposure @sheclicksnet @__snapher__ @womenphotographersglobal @fujifilmuk @igerscumbria

Blanketed by bluebells. . . From a fabulous walk around Crummock Water yesterday catching up with the lovely and very talented @jenspiersphotography . We spent a delightful hour on Rannerdale Knotts photographing the bluebells. I’d never visited before in bluebell season and was blown away by the intensity and deep purpley-blue colour temporarily carpeting the lower slopes here. A big thank you to Jen for her wonderful company and for recommending such a scenic route! These two shots are in-camera multiple exposures that I’ve later tweaked slightly on my iPad. . . . . . . . . #igerscumbria_may26 #multipleexposure #bluebellseason #the_creative_lenses #incameradoubleexposure @sheclicksnet @__snapher__ @womenphotographersglobal @fujifilmuk @igerscumbria

Field of Flowers. . . This is an image that I created for the excellent workshop run by @janina_wildeacademy where we study a poem that Janina selects for us each month. This image is the second inspired by ‘A Greeting’ by William Henry Davies and the words from the last line of the 2nd verse in particular: Hail to the morning sky, Which bright clouds measure high; Hail to you birds whose throats Would number leaves by notes; Hail to you shady bowers, And you green fields of flowers. Minimalist Man . . . Yesterday I toured around the beaches and small towns on the Cumbrian coast. The Isle of Man was visible from a couple of locations, but when I arrived at St Bees, the clarity had improved and a wonderful long cloud had stretched out across the length of the island. This is a double exposure using a long exposure shot with one taken with a fast shutter speed. You can only really tell if you look at the island’s mountain scape. . . . . . . . #isleofman #isleofman_insta #igerscumbria_may26 #bnwseascapes #seascape_lovers @igerscumbria @sheclicksnet @womenphotographersglobal @__snapher__ @fujifilmuk @visitisleofman @isleofman_insta @women_in_seascape_photography_

Nether Wasdale Horseshoe . . . A few more out-of-camera B&W shots taken on a walk around the fells making up the Nether Horsheshoe, or at least most of them. I’d not walked here before and was delighted by the views across Wasdale to the Scafells, they were really quite stunning, with just the right interplay between sunlight and clouds to create interesting shadows on the fellsides. Please swipe to see them all. . . . . . . . #wastwater #wasdale #igerscumbria_may26 #bnwlandscape #hikingthelakes @igerscumbria @sheclicksnet @womenphotographersglobal @__snapher__ @fujifilmuk

Wasdale recce . . . I arrived in Wasdale late afternoon and decided to check out a location I was hoping to visit at sunset for long exposure shots. I’m quite enjoying setting my camera to use the Fujifilm Acros b&w film simulation mode, so decided to have a play with that. Luckily the weather was just glorious, with blue skies and interesting clouds casting shadows across the fells. . . . . . . . #wastwater #wasdale #igerscumbria_may26 #bnwlandscape #hikingthelakes @igerscumbria @sheclicksnet @womenphotographersglobal @__snapher__ @fujifilmuk
