If you have this much fun sketching out the idea for a painting- it means itās gonna be a good painting. I sketched this one in a bunch of variations, and then went to oak street beach in Chicago a few years ago to take photos of people for references.
Iāll be selling this painting, prints of this, and a bunch of other work today at my bands show @friendmachine later today :) come on by!
Mural of Lord Ganesha for the lovely Dadiji, Priyanshi, Jai, and the whole Sikhwal family. Completed in two days in exterior house paint.
Painting in the sunlit garden drinking chai filled me with so much happiness, itās hard to translate over the phone.

Oblivion- Playing to the birds this autumn.
Hereās a song I wrote in April while doing a song-a-day in Dharamshala, India. I was sending emails daily of the song and what I did that day- hereās a snippet of the email:
[Capo on 3- walking down the top 2 strings for most of the song, kinda bass-y. Once again a late night song, had to be quiet while writing. The buddies from the night before said I could join in for a journey to a 1000 year old temple. We took buses, hitchhiked, local train, more buses, a taxi, more hitchhiking. The local train was my favorite, it felt like it was right out of a Wes Anderson film. We went from pine forest Himalayas, to flat tropical India. All in one morning. It was delightful and it filled my adventure thirst. So many good conversations, we sang Beatles on the train and in some buses. Iām so happy. We ate great food, and now Iām in bed ready to get up for a long hike!]
Lyrics:
If any clearer lens was used
Youād be standing on my feet
One false move from raking leaves
If any shiny watch could do
What polar breathing channels
How could we keep numbin our canals
To oblivion
To oblivion
Oblivion
To oblivion
If any wider mic was used
Iād be chopping in the tub of fencing crosses made of love
I love
Oblivion

During the end of March and beginning of April, I painted a mural of Anoushka Shankar, daughter of Ravi Shankar, playing the sitar on the banks of the Ganga River. The water ripples into patterns all around her reflection, and twist up into the foothills of the Himalayas. Orange clouds bend over the horizon of stars, and the painting is framed in detailed floral ornamentation. Glossy black exterior paint is layered underneath the matte black of the characters and the mountains, creating an interactive glow and shimmer as the viewer comes closer.
This mural is located in 12 Monks, a musical and lively hostel up the mountain in Rishikesh. As I would paint, friends would play music, write poetry, doodle, and dogs would mess with each other. In and out of painting, I studied the teachings of Vivekananda, learned about traditions of cleansing in the Ganga and worshiping her, and I learned so much from my musical friends with backgrounds ranging from Indian classical music to just pure rock lovers.
Iāve heard the sound of the sitar since I was a little kid, and I always felt drawn to it. Learning later in life about the Beatles going to India was lore that I wasnāt quite expecting from 4 beans and toast white dudes, and being able to visit the ashram that they lived in and where they wrote the White Album was my own surprise sacred pilgrimage. I was 25 when I walked into the exact room where George Harrison spent his 25th birthday, now overgrown with jungle. Thank you Ravi Shankar for teaching George Harrison how to play Sitar. Thank you Ravi Shankar for having 2 badass daughters. Thank you Ganga Ma for flowing.
Rishikesh I am so grateful for everything you taught me, for all the wonderful souls, music, nature, and inspiration. Iāll be back one day soon.

SHEāS OUT! Go listen to Cool Omission! Itās a 20 song album that I wrote, recorded, and mixed on my phone in northern India during the month of June.
Itās imperfect, but I love it. 20 songs filled with love, distortion, and stories from the road.
I thought of the idea months before in Rishikesh (inspired by the Beatles) to write a song every day and email it to my friends. After doing it in April, I wanted to do it again in June. Both months I wrote 30 songs, emailing the lyrics, the story about the song, and the details of my day to whoever said they wanted to receive it. Hereās 20 of the best songs from the group- go listen on Bandcamp, Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube or whateverā¤ļø.
Shout out to @or_krauss for playing guitar on tracks 2, 4, 5, 9, 11, 16, 17
The album cover is a photo of yours truly overlayed on a mural I painted in Jaipur. Itās an embellished window into the Pink City, and a cloud-filled sky over water.
