so this has been in the vaults over 5 years…
when I heard that Ty was ill I thought i'll do that design for him, as a gift, whatever he wants to do with it. I say “that design” as we were talking a couple of years before and he kinda tentatively asked if i would consider doing a design of him, I was stoked he'd ask me so I was like, “yeah man, I’d love to”, he looked really pleased but reacted with surprise saying “oh cool, I thought you only did famous people.”...mate. We talked about it a few times but for whatever reason it didnt happen, I guess it was on the back-burner.
Then the news comes that hes passed, didn't know him well but it just hit me, really the saddest news. I’d been checking photos of him so continued doing that for a while, just looking and thinking about him, listening to his music. I really fell for his face, its wonderful, beautifully unsymmetrical and holds so many stories, so on one hand it was a pleasure to design but on the other heartbreakingly sad. If I felt myself getting kinda upset I knew I was getting it right so just followed that.
I used the fire to symbolise hope, the last thing in Pandora’s box after all the ill’s of the world were released, but also the idea of strength, energy and fire in the belly.

1 of 4 pieces someone tried to scam me out of recently, the real prize would’ve been bank and other details but shipping the artworks was part of the plan, in their mind. Swerved another art scam of a different kind earlier in the summer too.
