It’s with the heaviest of hearts I’m writing this…
Yesterday morning, my beloved mum Julia — the heart, the soul, the beating pulse of Ju Ju’s for the past 18 years — passed away.
Most of you will have known her the moment you walked through the door. The woman bustling around Ju Ju’s who already knew your order. Who remembered your name. Who asked after your mum, your kids, your job interview — and genuinely wanted to know the answer. Who made this little café feel like the warmest place in Birmingham on even the coldest days.
She built Ju Ju’s from nothing. Eighteen years ago she had a vision, a fierce work ethic, and absolutely no intention of doing anything by halves. What she created wasn’t just a café. It was a community. Strangers became regulars. Regulars became friends. Her name was above the door because every single thing about it — the warmth, the welcome, the heart of it — was entirely, unmistakably her.
The most devoted mum. The most besotted grandmother to my little boy. Funny, straight talking and fiercely loyal. She didn’t do fuss. What you saw was what you got — and what you got was extraordinary.
In her final weeks Mum was cared for so tenderly by @brumshospice — first at home, then at their Selly Park hospice. In the hardest moments of our lives they were quietly, steadily extraordinary.
Thank you with everything I have to Ish, Marie, Aisha, Barry and Liv — who kept this place going while I was by Mum’s side. Short staffed, carrying their own grief, giving everything they had. Mum would have been so proud. I am so proud.
Please visit her memorial page to share a memory, light a candle or donate to Birmingham Hospice in her name.

Ju Ju’s is closed for now. What the future holds for this little place I love so much - I don’t know.
Rest easy Mum. You came from nothing and built something beautiful. Right until the very end.
I love you forever.

Happy International Women’s Day 💐
Today we’re celebrating the incredible women behind Ju Ju’s Café — Julia, our founder, alongside Beatrice, Aisha, Marie and Olivia. Strong, hardworking women who show up to keep this little café full of warmth, good food and community.
The hospitality industry is facing tough times right now, with many independent businesses sadly closing their doors. It’s a reminder that we still have work to do to make spaces like this sustainable and supportive — especially for women building and running them.
Ju Ju’s was created by women, powered by women, and supported by an amazing community. When you choose to visit independent places like ours, you’re helping real people, real families and real dreams continue.
So today we’re celebrating progress, supporting one another, and raising a glass of Sex on the Canal (sex on the beach for too overrated in our opinion!) to the women who keep pushing forward.
If you can, pop in, bring a friend, and support your favourite local businesses — it truly means the world.
Happy International Women’s Day from all the women at Ju Ju’s Café 💛
We are so excited to welcome @alamexicana.birmingham for a kitchen takeover this Sunday! 6.30pm - 9.30pm.

Mother’s Day at Ju Ju’s – Sunday 15th March
Every mum receives a free glass of fizz!
Mother’s Day is nearly here, and we’re getting ready for one of our favourite days of the year at Ju Ju’s Café.
Our cosy canal-side spot in Birmingham — just a short walk from Brindleyplace and Broad Street — will be filled with spring touches, daffodils, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere for celebrating all the incredible mums.
It’s our busiest day of the year, so if you’re planning to join us for good food, relaxed vibes and canal-side views, make sure to book your table as soon as possible.

We are SO EXCITED to announce we’re teaming up again with the wonderful family-run @alamexicana.birmingham for one night only on Sunday 8th March, 6.30–9.30pm.
After last year’s sold-out event, we’re bringing even more authentic Mexican home-cooking to the kitchen — think handmade tortillas, slow-cooked fillings, vibrant salsas and bold flavours, all made with love.
Walk-ins are welcome but we expect a full house, so booking is recommended. Come hungry and ready for a great night of food and community.

We’re not adding anything extra this Valentine’s — because the magic is already here. ✨
