Perspectiva is my thought of the day. Sometimes as an artist you get so caught up in the detail that you forget to stand back and look at the whole.
We are in May so not even half way through the year but I have already participated in 4 art fairs - two in SF, one in Mexico City and one in New York.
When I focus on the detail some of the fairs were more successful than others, some were not at all successful and left me feeling deflated as it is the unsuccessful ones that stick in my mind. What could I have done to make them more successful?
Standing back I think that stepping up and being prepared to put myself and my art, which is obviously an extension of myself, out there is a pretty good achievement. What is the alternative? Making work and hiding it away? Not making work? Neither strike me as good options.
The beautiful thing about art fairs is all the incredible people you meet. I have made new friends who I have stayed in touch with at every fair I have participated in. Our shared experiences are true bonds and everyone has their own fascinating backstory and talent.
So maybe the perspective of today is to stand back and view success a different way. #artfair #success #perspective #artfriends
After a wonderful 21/2 weeks celebrating my birthday followed by a fun but intense @clio.art.fair today was a day for getting back into creativity mode.
As anyone following me knows I love a circle - it's such a cool shape so today's task was to revisit some work that I did with circles back in 2021. Then I collaged paper that I painted with ink. Today I chose to work with canvas. I cut out the shapes, painted them with acrylic paint and then stitch the circles onto squares then sewed the squares together. Such a fun day. #circles #collage #stitchedcollage #geometricart #colour
Happy Earth Day.
I made this work 10 years ago. It is the largest work I have ever made. It was inspired by the moonlight reflecting on the sea. Created by monoprints and stitch on paper that I worked into with silver paint and black ink. The paper was attached to sections of canvas which were then sewn together so I could stretch it like a painting.
I decided it had been in a cupboard too long and needed to be restretched so I could hang it on the wall of my living room in London.
