Dance indeed has saved me
Dance didn’t wait for my CV.
It didn’t ask what I lacked.
It took my questions, my hunger
I filmed dreams with my brothers @thelagosfamily ❤️
and we gave them rhythm until they stood.
When my pockets were empty
and doors stayed closed,
I found a language that needed no money
just floor, and breath, and me.
Every rejection sat in my shoulders
until the beat rolled in
and shook it loose.
I’m not just learning steps i’m indeed becoming through Bata drums from Lagos in my ribs,
Krump in my fists ,Naija street credibility in my orientation (OT)
Knowledge comes now as sweat:
How a head-nod in SHOMOLU
answers a shuffle in IWAYA
Realizing how grief bows the same in every CULTURE
So today I dance
not because life is easy,
but because the floor taught me:
You move through it.
You move, and you move,
until moving becomes arriving.
Happy World Dance Day.
