NEW/OLD WORK! I’ve been slightly nervous to share this work with the world as it’s really personal and for a while the wound was really fresh. Now that time has passed and I have healed more, I feel like I’m in a much better space to be able to share this with you all :) I also have some new work on the way and thought it was about time to give this series some love!
DAD is an ongoing self portrait series exploring my relationship to my father through the features that he left for me. This work stands as a reclamation of our shared features as my own, and as a reshaping of memories and non-memories. The process of self imaging became therapeutic in grappling with my father’s absence. My embodiments of my father are the only relationship I have with him that centers healing and peace.

The project originally started as a short film during my time with the DUB Platforms film fellowship, and we have decided to bring it to life! Dismantle is an experimental ritual exploring the process of dismantling an ever-growing, perpetually maze-like structure from within. This is an effort to question and become familiar with the mechanics of deconstruction and reconstruction, both literally and figuratively. The structure itself functions as a metaphor for pain, abuse, systemic oppression, and the like. This experiment uncovers tools for effectively deconstructing/reconstructing both the world’s external societal structures and our own internal mental frameworks. We all carry with us our own ever-growing, perpetually maze-like structures, and are implicated in the endurance of these structures, as well as their destruction and reconstruction. How can we break free from and reimagine something that we have grown so accustomed to? Something that has effectively become an extension of our own body? The structure’s deconstruction and reconstruction is both a catalyst for imagining our way out of larger societal structures, as well as a reflection on passivity as perpetuation.
