M. Geddes Gengras returns to Hausu Mountain with Guest List, his fourth entry in the label’s catalog since 2019 and the first to be issued on vinyl. His albums for HausMo have ranged from the topographical ambient synth networks of I Am The Last of That Green and Warm-Hued World, to the dense technoid beat experiments of Time Makes Nothing Happen, to the lush post-rock-adjacent harmonic architectures of Expressed, I Noticed Silence. On Guest List, Gengras composes the most ambitious and omnidirectional song cycle that he has ever captured in the context of one album, weaving his own synths and electronics into a dense tapestry of contrasting genres and ideas all animated by the presence of an enormous cast of collaborators. In Gengras’s hands, the infinite-limbed drum performances of Greg Fox, the ecstatic guitar explorations of Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance), the soaring vocalizations of Christina Carter (Charalambides), and the contributions of many more artists become individual brushstrokes to paint across the canvases of his dense mixes. Channeling sonic details from his wide circle of friends, Gengras broadens his range of expression and composes the most communal and ultimately personal program of music in his bottomless catalog.

Leslie Rollins was one of the best friends anyone could have ever dreamed of-a warm presence, kind on levels usually reserved for mythic descriptions of religious founders, capable of listening to all souls with his soul, sharp and smart in an unpretentious or at the very least self aware way, you couldn’t manufacture a better man in a laboratory. We met in a high school library in northern Indiana brought together by a shared love of synthesizers but more than anyone Leslie exemplified the greatest truism of all: synthesizers are merely the alembic by which people like us alchemize our leaden inner minds into the gold of sound, light, creation, connection with others. We are all better for having lived in a world with Leslie Rollins and while I am absolutely gutted to know I’ll never get to rap about video synthesizers or Michigan’s rich history with breakaway religions with him in it, I do know that my mans had the shortest interview with St. Peter in documented history upon his certain arrival in Heaven. Rest in peace buddy, say hi to Mike for us

There is no one on earth I would rather be spending the rest of my life celebrating every triumph and rebounding from every setback with, nor can I believe my luck in finding a woman capable of loving Miles Davis, King Gizzard, Edgar Froese, and Chappell Roan as much as I do. I am proud of you for being so creative, so energetic, so good at making the most of every opportunity in life while we’ve changed our lives, jobs, home, and future so much. for our first Valentine’s Day as husband and wife I got Cari two thousand five hundred pennies to establish a tactical reserve so she never has to worry about not being able to smash a penny in a machine or under the wheels of a train.
