With ‘Heartbreaker’ on the horizon, we wanted to introduce you to the author behind the story, @judith_oreilly .
✨ What makes readers root for Daphne?
Daphne is carrying unimaginable grief after the murder of her family, and she blames herself for not being able to protect them. Readers connect with her determination to help others and her refusal to give up when it comes to catching a killer.
✨ What inspired ‘Heartbreaker’?
I wanted to explore a character willing to stand alone for what’s right, even if it makes them unpopular. Influences ranged from revenge thrillers like John Wick to the very real anxieties of parenthood and the fear of not being able to keep your children safe.
✨ What themes does the book explore?
At its heart, ‘Heartbreaker’ is about love in all its forms, alongside grief, justice, revenge, obsession and second chances.
‘Heartbreaker’ is perfect for fans of Harlan Coben, Sam Holland and M. J. Arlidge.
📚 Out 19 May.

We’re so proud to reveal the cover for 'Heartbreaker' by @judith_oreilly ✨
Three years ago, Daphne Monroe’s family were murdered in a brutal home invasion.
Her life was destroyed – and the police still believe she was responsible.
The only reason she survived is the transplanted heart beating in her chest.
But when someone breaks into her home, Daphne realises something terrifying: the killer has come back to finish what he started.
With the police convinced she’s guilty, Daphne must search alone for the truth – uncovering a chilling connection between a series of unsolved murders and the hidden world of organ donation, medical obsession, and a tragedy that changed her life forever.
A gripping crime thriller about survival, secrets and the lengths a mother will go to find justice for her family.

Enjoying a moment with short stories. Following on from my recent Margery Allingham short mystery win and the CWA dagger long listing, I’m delighted to say that I’m joint winner of this year’s Alpine Fellowship Writing Prize (along with the fantastic poet Laura Theis). Which means a trip to Sweden!
