Juan Genovés’ paintings are instantly recognisable for their crowds seen from above. @juangenoves Small figures move across open fields of colour, caught between tension and momentum, pause and movement. From afar, the composition feels almost abstract, built through rhythm and spacing. Up close, each figure gains texture, weight and presence. For Genovés, the crowd is never faceless. It becomes a powerful image of vulnerability, resistance and possibility. Juan Genovés’ solo exhibition is now on view at Opera Gallery Geneva until 10 April! @juangenoves A major figure of postwar Spanish art, Genovés is celebrated for his striking aerial compositions of crowds in motion. Bringing together just over fifteen paintings from the 2000s, including works from the artist’s estate, the exhibition highlights his unique ability to balance distance and intimacy. Across bold expanses of colour, tiny figures gather, pause, and disperse. Seen from afar, the compositions appear almost abstract; viewed up close, thick impasto and sharp shadows give each figure a vivid sense of presence. Artworks: •Juan Genovés, Alba que das a mis noches un resplandor rojo y blanco (Homenaje a Miguel Hernandez, 2010 •Juan Genovés, Axioma #2, 2018 📸©️Juan Genovés in El Carmen, Valencia 2013 ✅ Learn more and plan your visit via the link in our bio.

Juan Genovés opens 13 March at Opera Gallery Geneva. This solo exhibition brings together just over fifteen powerful paintings from the 2000s, including works from the artist’s estate. Seen from above, Genovés’ iconic crowds hover between movement and stillness, capturing moments of tension, unity, and quiet intensity. Shaped by his experience under the Franco regime, his figurative realism transforms the collective into a charged visual rhythm, where dense surfaces and subtle spacing invite you to look closer and find individuality within the many.
